When even the royals can’t stay out of the red, you know it’s tough all over.

Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson has debt in the millions of pounds, according to the Sunday Telegraph, and with a ‘deeply concerned’ queen hovering over the situation, at least one Buckingham Palace adviser has allegedly urged her to file for bankruptcy. Fergie’s rep, however, told the Daily Telegraph that his client’s personal debt had been paid off, and her business debt was ‘being managed.’

‘It would be premature to say she is going into bankruptcy,’ said the duchess’ spokesman, who maintained the dollar amount involved -- OK, it was pounds, but work with us here -- had been exaggerated by the press.

What? As if that would ever happen! Never!

The Sunday Telegraph estimated Fergie’s debt at 5 million pounds, with 2 million pounds of that ...

... business-related; the rumored total translates at current rates into a little less than $8 million U.S. Ferguson in May was taped taking money from a tabloid reporter, and told Oprah Winfrey shortly afterward that she was having financial problems.
