Watch out, James Cameron -- ‘Piranha 3D’ producer Mark Canton is showing his teeth.

After ‘Avatar’ director Cameron slammed the fatal fish movie in a recent interview, Canton issued a response Tuesday via a statement from the film’s distributor, the Weinstein Co.

‘I tend almost never to throw other films under the bus, but [‘Piranha 3D’] is exactly an example of what we should not be doing in 3-D. Because it just cheapens the medium and reminds you of the bad 3-D horror films from the ‘70s and ‘80s,’ Cameron said first.

Canton’s not having it.

‘Cameron consistently celebrates himself out as though he is a team of one. His comments are ridiculous, self-serving and insulting to those of us who are not caught up in serving his ego and his rhetoric,’ the producer said.

The response goes on to challenge Cameron to view the film with an audience, just like Canton did on opening weekend with another famous director.

‘On opening weekend, I was in a Los Angeles theatre with a number of today’s great filmmakers including J.J. Abrams, who actually had nothing short of the fabulous, fun 3-D experience that the movie provides,’ Canton said.

See, James? All the cool kids are doing it.
