Miss Universe win goes to Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete

Miss-universe-hosts Jimena Navarrete, Miss Mexico, was crowned Miss Universe 2010 in Las Vegas on Monday night, taking over where the previous title holder, Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela, left off.

Others in the top five were Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell; Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipps; Miss Ukraine, Anna Poslavska; and Miss Philippines, Venus Raj.

The 22-year-old answered a question about unsupervised Internet use, saying through an interpreter that the Internet's important, sure, but when it comes to kids online, "We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family." (For the other questions -- hint: how about those airport scanners, eh? -- check in Las Vegas Weekly.)

And what of Rima Fakih, our own Miss USA? Alas, she didn't make the top 15 -- and according to Robin Leach on Twitter, she decided afterward "to be with family instead of being at pageant princess party in LAX at Luxor."

After the break: pictures of Navarrete with her grandma, and Fakih in a bikini. Because we can.

The Ministry has no problem with pretty people. Particularly if they're scantily clad, but not naked.

Hell Yeah! Mexico for the win!!!

You are all just haters, since you don't have the looks or intelligence to ever compete in such an event. Just cause she doesn't speak english does not mean she is not smart. Why didn't Miss USA make it??? Exactly bunch of haters. You're all just jealous cause your probably ugly. :)Plus all the girls who participated were both beautiful and smart.

i'm happy for ms.mexico but i really think miss philippines should have won..with his grace, the way she walks, the way she carries herself and all..but..its just the her answer is less sensible than i think..she has the great chance of winning coz she stands out among the five..

I don't know why some folks are saying that miss Philippines should have won? Maybe it's just me, but I don't find her being that attractive.

To all who are not happy or criticizing Miss Mexico's Win:
Out of the five finalist Jamaica, Mexico, and Phillipines were amongst those who stood out the most followed by Ukraine. The truth is that Miss Mexico actually scored higher in many parts including the evening gown. Besides what Miss Mexico had to present on the outside (beauty), she also had inner beauty. She had an impacting and positive attitude which is what represents many women (not just Mexican) around the world. She studied nutrition and wants to make a difference in the lives of many young women/girls who have eating disorders. I feel that winning this peagent is a tool that Miss Mexico will use to make a difference and not just enjoy all the riches/fame of being Miss Universe.
She does represent the many beautiful, intelligent, and fierce women all over the world and that is what is suppose to be represented. As far as for the other contestants they are all beautiful and some smart but this may not have been their time to shine. I am a proud Mexican-American woman who definitely relates to the new Miss Universe. I know others who can relate who are not Mexican American but who are WOMEN.

Viva Miss Universo! Y que Viva Mexico! Bicentenario de Libertad!

So cute . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ?

Wow, ignorant people. It's called Miss Universe, not Miss USA. You are a little behind.

I also feel Jamaica should have won. She and Mexico were neck and neck going into the final question. However, as someone else stated here, Miss Mexico didn't actually answer the question she was given, which was "What effect does unsupervised use of the internet have on teens today?" She NEVER answered the question. She said hello to the audience, told she thought the internet was necessary and commented that kids would pick up on their parents values. Where in that jumble does she answer what effect unsupervised use of the internet has on teens? I'm thinking it was pretty close. I don't think either of them got the high score on interview. If I had to guess it was probably Miss Australia.

OMG! Miss Jamaica is SO beautiful. Why didn't see win?

For the moron below, that's why latin women always win because they are the best! Latin women are the best looking. It's Miss Universe, not Miss USA. MORON!

She is absolutely stunning! so many Latino woman winning Miss Universe for a reason. I lived in Guadalajara, Jalisco, took a semester of school where I learned most of my Spanish and I'm not surprised shes from there because some of the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen were from there( aside of Brazil). What did shock me was to see Philippines even making it pass the 10 finalist. That girl looked like a transexual, she was very ugly!

She's very pretty, and seems like a fine choice.

note though, that speaking English is NOT a race, lol. You can knock someone for not speaking a language without being racist.

Tennille, Well now if it was only an English speaking winner, then why is it MISS UNIVERSE and why are they from different countries. Shows how smart you are.

i just love the fact that our girl Yendi came in second congrats to miss Mexico it shows that Jamaica is little but full of talents

I don't care about the bitterness of some people, just correcting Tennille, Spanish is NOT the universal language ENGLISH is. However it is always a plus to know more than one

If that women is the most beautiful on the planet I'm Bill Gates!

yaaaa!!!! MEXICO!!!!!!!!!! PEACE PEOPLE

Miss Mexico is truly Miss Universe, the perfect woman to represent Planet Earth. I easily picked her out from the 83, or whatever, contestants. She was just beautiful on another level. This became even more pronounced as she stood with the final five. I was especially pleased with her response to the internet question, as she broadened the context, not just talking about protecting our children, but he positive uses as well. She was very confident and articulate. Let's face it, she has it all, and all of us should be very proud of her.

Yeppers, Philippines should had won. She was just emotional and distraught with a friend of her died. Wrong choice of words cost her the crown.
