John Mayer on the joys of being single, opening for himself

Though weekend reports suggested John Mayer had reconciled with former flame Jennifer Aniston, Mayer sang a different tune Sunday at the Hollywood Bowl.
Checking into the famous venue for a stop on his Battle Studies world tour, Mayer waxed on the joys of being single while introducing his track “Perfectly Lonely.”
“I have to answer to no one, I can do to this,” Mayer said, breaking out into a silly dance.
“No one is going to have to explain at work why their boyfriend is dancing like a jerk.”
As a single man running the show, Mayer chose his opening act -- himself.
While band Owl City officially opened, Mayer trotted out jazz pianist Brad Mehldau for a four-song collaborative set prior to his proper show. The men jammed on covers of “Wind Cries Mary” and “Bittersweet Symphony.”
“I’m John Mayer opening for John Mayer. Are you ready for John Mayer after this?” he joked during the pre-set.
Mayer was full of quips and anecdotes for the crowd -- which included bold-named revelers like “Chuck’s” Zachary Levi and comedian Jeff Ross -- one in particular about the perils of living in Los Angeles.
“Every morning I have my first cup of coffee and look out the bay windows and think about how possible each day is,” he said, “by 2 a.m. I am surrounded...I am in the [rear end] of Los Angeles.”
He asked fans in the arena if they’d consider showing him a good time in the City of Angels. Insert thunderous cries here.
