Paris Hilton released in South Africa after being detained on pot suspicion, rep says

Paris Hilton in Brazil Paris Hilton was released by South African authorities Friday after a brief court appearance, TMZ reports. She had been detained on suspicion of pot possession, as reported by our colleagues at the Fabulous Forum.

A rep for Hilton says authorities apologized to the heiress for misidentifying her, TMZ says.

Hilton was at the Brazil-Netherlands soccer match before she was detained outside the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, according to a Johannesburg radio station report. Hilton was, according to TMZ's source, part of a group and was not smoking weed.

Hilton appeared briefly in a special FIFA World Cup court around midnight local time.

Why do I feel guilty in thinking money changed hands to avoid an embarasing incident?.. Something on the lines of a discreet fine to a discreet officer of the court! Im sure Im very wrong, knowing full well that both P.H. and South African officials are way above that sort of thing. Right?

They really know how to make a biased law: Paris gets charges dropped, friend pays $130, poor person gets 30 days in jail.

The cannabis laws are unfair all over the world, including the US.

Cannabis is SAFER than alcohol. It is less intoxicating and does not cause its consumers to become violent. It does not have long term toxic effects on the body and is not physically addictive.

Legalizing it will wipe out over 60% of violent cartel and street gang profits and put it in a regulated market only available to adults.

wayneflo, though I sided with your philosophy do not compare pot to alcohol, since alcohol does not smell as bad as pot ha ha ha !!!

In Denver cannabis is legal, unless you get stopped by state police, then it’s $100 (no arrest).

Florida laws are evil. You get up to 1yr in jail and $1000 fine and they suspend your driver’s license for 6 months to 2yrs. If you have more than 21grams, then it’s a felony and you get 5yr in jail and $5000 fine. Of course, Florida can get you for another 1 yr and $1000 for paraphernalia (which you have, since they found the cannabis). Any conviction gets your drivers license suspended at least 6 months, since they want your family to starve.
