Russell Crowe is alive and well and added to our celebrity death hoax gallery [updated]

Russell-crowe-colosseum-web

Russell Crowe is not dead. We say this because there was a stupid Internet rumor Thursday to the contrary.

So what's the good news, other than the fact that the star of "Gladiator," the best film ever in the history of the universe, did not fall to his death from an Austrian mountaintop? (Seriously, how could anyone believe that? It's just stupid. The man's a knitter, for Pete's sake, not a mountain climber. [Updated, 11:13 p.m.: Or at least there's an Internet rumor that he's a knitter, which is almost as vicious as an Internet rumor that he's fallen to his death. Thanks, mjkbk!] Either way,  as if a 50-foot fall is going to take out Maximus? We think not.)

The good news is that The Times' Web team has added yet another picture to our celebrity death hoax photo gallery.

And a fine photo it is.

Check it out for yourself by clicking that link, and remember, for the love of all that's holy, always check your sources.

Your're right Christie, we always should check our sources. Which BTW should NEVER include any kind of knitting magazines, forums, or blogs claiming Russell Crowe knits. Cuz he doesn't. Maybe Mr. Crowe should finally lay this aging myth to rest by doing a yarn commercial: "Hello, I'm Russell Crowe and I'm not a knitter in real life, but I've posed with knitting needles as a prop."

Touche, my friend! The post has now been updated. And, uh, yeah, I had a *hunch* I was giving good advice.
