Rush Limbaugh gets married, and Elton John is the wedding singer [poll] [updated]

Elton-rush-web Rush Limbaugh got married on Saturday night to Kathryn Rogers in Palm Beach, Fla., complete with 400 guests, no media, a high-flying shout-out from the folks at Gawker and music by Elton John.

Among the folks trading the worlds of politics and political commentary for the Ponce de Leon ballroom at the Breakers hotel: Karl Rove, Sean Hannity, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, James Carville and Mary Matalin.

Elton has been slammed by some over saying yes to Rush's offer -- the civil-partnered gay man who reportedly kept the hotel staff hopping is said to have hauled in a million bucks for his night's work at Limbaugh's fourth such celebration of nuptials. But before you clutch your pearls in shock ...

... over the whole affair, recall that John recently played in Morocco. He's also shared a stage with and is a friend of Eminem, a rapper not exactly campaigning loudly for gay rights. Perhaps conservative and liberal streams can indeed cross without creating a rip in the space-time continuum -- though further complicating the issue is the fact that the bride is a descendant of President John Adams, who was neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but a Federalist (not that that party helped one-term Adams much, what with Vice President Thomas Jefferson nipping at his heels and all).

~~ Seriously, though -- has anyone checked today to see if south Florida's still showing up in the usual spot on the GPS? ~~

[Updated at 4:09 p.m., June 7, 2010: An earlier version of this post referred to the singer twice as "married"; in fact, he and David Furnish are in a civil partnership. Elton in 2008 spoke out in favor of same-sex civil partnerships or unions rather than same-sex marriage.]

According to Zev Chafets, author of a new book about the radio host, Limbaugh "regards homosexuality as, most probably, biologically determined, and while he opposes gay marriage as culturally subversive, he has no problem with gay civil unions -- which is the stance of President Obama and Hillary Clinton. He drinks adult beverages, smokes cigars, and is not exactly a shining example of family values."

That last bit suggests a good time would've been had by all at the reception.

Limbaugh and Rogers, who met in 2004 at a charity golf tournament, had been dating for about three years. What, nobody's yelling about a guy who's 59 marrying a woman who's 33? At least John picked someone -- David Furnish -- only 15 years his junior.

Oh, wait -- it's South Florida, and Limbaugh's a little bit rich. Never mind.

Good luck to the newlyweds.

It's a great thing when "any nice couples" get married, or even when Liberals do too.

It speaks volumes about how "open minded" Rush & Elton both are!
Congrats to all.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

I am happy for them! As for the rest of you low life bitter little people can't you even be glad when someone experiences something good?
I think Elton was happy to perform at the wedding, ask him yourselves.

So Rush has an African American doing the ceremony and an openly gay entertainer as the entertainment ... and the left goes insane. Keep showing your colors progressives. Day by day, you prove who is truly the unaccepting, intolerant bigots and racists in this country. You've duped everyone thus far, but not for much longer. When the country FINALLY wakes up you shall dangle from the noose of history, and I for one CANNOT WAIT for that to happen. Bigots!

It was his wedding. Who cares who sang!!!!! Ha ha the joke is on the liberals who think they own TOLERANCE!!! Gotta LOVE it. You go Rush and Elton.......be owned by no one! HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!

That's great! I enjoy listen to Rush and i love Elton's music! Blessings to the newly weds. Also Ken Hutchison is a super great Christian minister! Sounds like a wonderful time for all.

I agree with Limbaugh. I think it is great that Elton played at the wedding. Limbaugh is correct in stating that the left/or those who oppose his social-political belief system are truly the ones who are close-minded, narrow, and bitter in their views. Certain people have been seething about Elton's decision to play at Limbaugh's wedding. Why? Apparently the bigot shoe fits them. Limbaugh doesn't have the market cornered on that issue after all.

So because they disagree they can't be friendly? People need to grow up.

Elton didn't do it for money -- he doesn't need the money. He did it to build a bridge.

Limbaugh is such a hateful person. Even if its all an act, anyone who would say such things about people, he is a bigot and hurtful. I am SO SHOCKED to see Elton being associated with this person. Is this all about MONEY!! I understand beautiful women marrying for money as its done all the time, if she wants to wake up to that everyone morning that's up to her!But Elton I am disappointed, does he really need the money that bad.

Congratulations to All, and God Bless.

How wonderful that Sir Elton has not succumbed to the melodramatic tribalism of so many in celebrity circles, and declares his freedom to associate with everyone!

Free Thinking Elton! Praise Be!

Rush ! Helping, keeping it real ! May GOD Bless Your Marriage ! LOL got to get a kick out Sir Elton.

I think Elton John is this New Century's 'Truman Capote' - look at the array of friends and admirers he associates with; the list truly runs the gamut. 'Tumbleweed Connection' was enough to immediately put him in my musical Hall of Fame. I am so happy to see that he and Nigel Olson are playing together once again (Knight Arena - February 17th in Duckland, Oregon; 'scuse me, Eugene) Now if we can only encourage him to get Paul Buckmaster back on board we could sit back and have another incredible recording experience. Talk about driving it to the hoop! And Elton, if you can get Billy Joel writing the equivalent of 'Pressure' or 'We Didn't Start the Fire' once again then all the 'tough love' you've been giving him will be well worth the wait. You and Billy are both an incredible pair of pianists, songwriters and vocalists. JSJr 2202011
