Kristen Stewart and her new hair talk wolf dogs with David Letterman

Kristen Stewart's new hairstyle at the Twilight Eclipse New York premiere. Kristen Stewart swung by David Letterman's show Monday, sporting a flirty, lighter-colored 'do and expressing an affection for wolves.

OK, wolf dogs. The hybrid kind. The kind that are legal for her mom to keep as pets, she assured Letterman -- who kept pressing.

And pressing.

"Whattya tryin' to do to me, man?" an animated Stewart joked to her host, "seriously, c'mon!?"

According to the actress -- whose most recent film, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," premiered Thursday -- the pack is her mom's way of coping with a bit of empty nest syndrome.

"She's awesome," Stewart said of her mother. "She's just a little funny."

Who'd've thunk it ...

P.S. Ownership of first-generation wolf hybrids is prohibited in California; second-generation and beyond is fine.

You seriously did not spend time looking that law up? You right a gossip column stick to that.

Letterman did keep pushing her with all the wolf comments. WTH? Was he just trying to get a reaction out of her or at a loss for further conversation. I thought she seemed very friendly and confident. Can't wait to see the full interview.

@Zoe -- Christie D'Zurilla here from the blog. Yep, I did look up that law, because I've known folks who own wolf dogs and am aware there are rules around them that vary by state. Most wolf-dog owners, in my experience, are smart enough to know they have to go second generation.

I thought Letterman came off as rude

Kristen Stewart...you need to lighten up. You said some very cute things on Letterman but you ruined it when you kept saying you weren't getting what everyone was laughing at...you used words that had double meaning...so a play on words was fun until you brought everyone down. Letterman was walking on egg shells because he didn't want to set Stewart off. Although many of us agree with you about the animals and other serious issues...we don't want to deal with it every second of everyday...we are not looking for serious talk, we are looking to be entertained. So lighten up girl and stop taking everything so seriously...

Kristen was great. I don't know why Dave went on about the dog's so much. He could have asked about the film she is doing this Summer.

Yes, he was incredibly rude. Pushing her and pushing her and it seemed insulting. He couldn't ask her about her up coming film, her new haircut (which the audience was clearly cueing her about) or something interesting? I mean, come on.

She's so awkward. She could have had a little fun and joked around with him.

Is this chick for real? She seems so out of it every time I see her interviewed. I don't get why folks think she is a good actress. I like the movies, the plot line of the movies but do not think her ability shines as an actress. She always has the same facial expressions.

I thought Kristen's confidence and cute, lighthearted attitude was perfect for a Letterman interview and was so great, and she really kept it going well considering how rude Letterman was! It was as if he didn't want her there, wasn't interested, may have actually been trying to make her feel that. Not cool. I love his show and watch it at least twice a week, and I've never seen him be that rude.

Kristen did a GREAT job on the Letterman show!!! She held her own as Dave went on & on about the 'wolfs' as he called them. Kristen stayed poised & true to her own beliefs. She also added some humor when she explained how she & Taylor had fun together, without Rob, as they toured foreign countries pomoting Eclipse. The audience enjoyed reading into her statements their own story about their "activities" without Rob & she had a good response. She seemed calm, self-assured & well-spoken. It was the best interview on a TV show that I've seen her do. Bravo, Kristen!!

First of all, Kristen looked beautiful! Her new haircolor is amazing and will probably start a new fad. Second, Kristen handled herself professionally with that creep, Lettterman. I'm sure she wanted to flip him off and walk out but she didn't. Kristen, you are awesome!

This was one of Dave's lamest interviews yet, showing how low his "humor" has sunk and how totally irrelevant he is. Instead of even trying to have a funny or witty interview he goaded a young girl for something her mother does, tried to get her to diss her own film, then when she wouldn't take the bate he essentially called her a ditz for being in it. If skewering is what Letterman considers entertainment these days, then I guess the audience did get entertained when Stewart called the game for what it was, and turned it around on him. Really Dave, so threatened by a young, smart, pretty girl, you can't even try to go head to head with her without taking the easy way out? Better start keeping an eye out over your shoulder for Conan...

I love the fact that Dave Letterman went out of his way to put Kristen down every single time and she was able to rise above him each time. But what I truly loved the most is the fact that Kristen didn’t hold back on her rebuttal about the brutal killing of wolves in Yellowstone. I have never seen Dave work so hard, SO HARD, to win an argument with anyone, especially with a 20-year old beautiful girl whom he probably didn’t expect would hold her own against him. I think Kristen took Dave to task this time because in the interview, it was Dave who was putting all the effort, TRYING SO HARD in fact, to “win” and “look cool” over her while Kristen effortlessly just let him be Dave without being afraid of his continued onslaught. Definite WIN for Kristen on this one. And as she has proven time and time again, she doesn’t need to kiss anyone’s azz. LOL Because especially in this one, Kristen totally owned Dave’s azz! LOL! You rock Kristen!

She is a cute as can be, but I am sorry she is as dumb as plywood and has the personality of a brick

I loved Kristen Stewart in this interview. She was very funny. Can't wait to see more, because I think she is a great actor.

how do you get a second generation hybrid without having a first generation one first?
