Heather Locklear cited on hit-and-run suspicion [updated]
Actress Heather Locklear, on probation for reckless driving as part of a plea deal that made a 2008 DUI charge disappear, was cited and released Saturday in connection with a misdemeanor hit-and-run incident involving her BMW, TMZ reports.
A crash was heard around 4 a.m. Saturday near Locklear's Westlake Village home, though law enforcement wasn't called until almost 8 p.m. In their investigation, sheriff's deputies determined that a car had gone up on a curb and knocked over a no-parking sign and, according to TMZ, found evidence pointing to Locklear's black BMW.
At the "Melrose Place" actress' home, deputies found damage on her car that fit their investigation, and arrested vehicle owner Locklear, TMZ reports.
Blair Berk, Locklear's attorney, told the Ministry in a statement: "Ms. Locklear was cited with a misdemeanor traffic ticket as she is the registered owner of the vehicle. She was never taken into custody. The matter is still being looked into as it is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle."
[Updated at 5:45 p.m.: TMZ reports that surveillance video helped lead sheriff's deputies to Locklear's home -- but doesn't necessarily put her behind the wheel during the hit and run.]
Locklear is currently on three years of "informal probation" after she plead no contest in January 2009 to a misdemeanor reckless driving charge, which had been reduced from the original DUI allegation. She also had to pay a $700 fine and attend a 12-hour drug education class; blood tests at the time of her arrest revealed prescription drugs, TMZ reported.
