With recording darling Rihanna at his side, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Matt Kemp has been scoring more publicity runs in recent months. Now the 25-year-old has landed his own profile in GQ magazine.

Sporting spring looks for athletic types, Kemp talks about his humble roots in Midwest City, Okla., as well as his high-fashion sneaker obsession. Rihanna comes up as well.

‘That’s a good friend of mine,’ Kemp said stone-faced to the mag. ‘We hang out and have fun.’

Still playing the friend card, we see, but there’s a certain charm in an athlete with a knack for discretion. And as far as getting noticed goes, he’s pretty low-maintenance.

‘I don’t need a bunch of people or a security guard. Singers and actresses are going to get way more recognized than an athlete -- unless you’re Kobe Bryant,’ Kemp said.

Yes, he’s content hoofing it up and down Rodeo Drive, although ‘some of those clothes are too small.’ The center fielder prefers sneakers from Lanvin but, as GQ points out, would much rather accessorize with a World Series ring.

Keep your eye on the prize, Kemp.
