Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have been a modern couple, not marrying despite years of companionship. Turns out they’re even more modern exes -- the pair announced their split today via Twitter.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, McCarthy (@JennyfromMTV) wrote, ‘Im so grateful for the years Jim and I had together. I will stay committed to Jane and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.’

Jane is Carrey’s 22-year-old daughter, who just made the comedian a grandfather in late February, giving birth to son Jackson Riley Santana.

Around the same time as his former partner’s tweet, Carrey (@jimcarrey) wrote, ‘Jenny and I have just ended our 5yr relationship. I’m grateful 4 the many blessings we’ve shared and I wish her the very best! S’okay! ?;^>’

McCarthy and Carrey had many a sweet day strolling on the beaches of Malibu, sharing swimsuits and playing with her son Evan, now 7.

It’s no surprise the former Playboy pinup intends to remain a part of the Carrey family. She told the Ministry in December that she was thrilled to be a grandmother to Jane’s baby, ring or not.

‘I will be called ‘grandmother,’ with or without a [marriage] certificate,’ she said. ‘That baby is going to be mine!’
