James Van Der Beek is expecting his first child with new girlfriend Kimberly Brook

James Van Der Beek balances out the celebrity Twitterverse this week: After Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy announced their split with tweets Tuesday, the "Dawson's Creek" star confirmed this morning that he's expecting his first child.  

"Yes, it's true - the woman I love and I are expecting our first child... currently experiencing joy on levels I never knew existed," the actor wrote.

Van Der Beek is surfing those joy levels with former model Kimberly Brook, whom he's taken up with since the November breakup of his marriage to actress Heather McComb. 

Last week, Van Der Beek and McComb ironed out the details of their divorce settlement, which saw a major score for the actor, currently on the hospital drama "Mercy." He'll get to keep royalties from prior film and television work, and alimony payments for McComb will run only through 2012.

Congrats to James and Kimberly!
