GLAAD Media Awards: Adam Lambert on stage, Wanda Sykes on Ellen DeGeneres and ‘Glee’ on prom kings

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation held its annual Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday -- and, shock, ‘Glee’ managed to win over the board! As did the comedic talents and recent coming out of funny lady Wanda Sykes, and the support of actress and director Drew Barrymore.
Sykes accepted the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, given to an out member of the entertainment industry who works to eliminate homophobia. It was presented to her by high school student Constance McMillan, whose prom was canceled after she asked to attend with her girlfriend.
‘I really should give this award to you,’ Sykes told McMillan, ‘but I’m not gonna do it.’
The host of ‘The Wanda Sykes Show’ thanked her network for its, um, support.
‘I want to thank the Fox network for allowing me to do the show I’m doing; it’s like Rupert Murdoch buying back all the hate -- like I’m saving him from going to hell,’ Sykes said of the News Corp. chair. Sykes also touched on her admiration of Ellen DeGeneres, revealing ...
... she’d been envious of DeGeneres’ openness and coming out before doing so herself in November 2008. Barrymore accepted the Vanguard Award, typically given to powerful entertainment allies of the gay community. Past winners include Charlize Theron, Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Aniston.
‘Glee’ took home outstanding comedy series, with cast members Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Amber Riley, Dianna Agron, Jayma Mays and Mark Salling accepting with creator Ryan Murphy.
Murphy celebrated Colfer’s character Kurt Hummel, pledging to the audience at Century City’s Hyatt Regency Hotel that Kurt would ‘never be the victim’ and that next season he’ll nab a boyfriend -- and they’ll become ‘prom kings.’
Adam Lambert performed two tracks from his debut album, and RuPaul snatched a trophy for outstanding reality program for the delicious ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: Season 2.’
