Chris Brown does his part for census awareness

Every time we see one of those census commercials on TV -- there are in fact 33 variations -- we wonder, who in the world doesn't know about the census?

Thank you, Chris Brown, for clearing that up for us.

Brown, who headlined a 2010 census awareness rally that drew about 200 people Monday at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va., admitted in interviews with local media that he had been unaware of the census originally, before he got a "full briefing." Did the R&B star, who turns 21 next month, perhaps have the same teen-singer tutor who let Justin Bieber turn 16 without learning the phrase "under wraps"?

Still, good on Brown, we suppose, for trying to be an upstanding citizen, and doing it just an hour away from his hometown of Tappahannock, Va., a tiny burg encompassing a mere 2.7 square miles and, in 2000, laying claim to 857 occupied housing units.

(That last information courtesy of -- surprise -- the U.S. Census Bureau.)

There are more than enough people who do not know why the census is important, all the ads nonewithstanding. That will show whenever you talk to a few people on the streets who aren't too much politically and socially involved. Therefore, what I would say to Chris Brown would sound different - in fact, I would put it like this:

"Way to go Chris Brown. I was glad to read you’re doing more community work, as well as work for charity. Great to hear, too, that you’re headlining a benefit concert of the American Red Cross for Virginia Foodbank and for Haiti in Richmond/VA and that you enlisted your friends Keri Hilson, Trey Songs, T-Pain, Mario and Ryan Leslie for the event. Just keep it up!!!"

Just my 2 cents. Nobody should keep criticising this man all the time, even when he's doing something good and positive. Go on Chris Brown!
