Sarah Palin attends Oscar gift lounge with Willow and grandson Tripp [updated]

Sarah palin Oscar gold got a little red, white and blue Wednesday in Los Angeles: Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin stopped by the Silver Spoon Oscar Suite with daughter Willow and grandson Tripp

[Updated at 8:17 p.m.: Wondering why Palin's doing the rounds in Hollywood? According to Top of the Ticket, it could have something to do with a TV show she's reportedly pitching with "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett.]

Benefiting the Red Cross, the swag suite snagged the former vice presidential candidate for photo ops and gifting from beauty and luxury sponsors. At the Interior Illusions store in West Hollywood, Palin received jewels from Pascal Mouawad, watches by Skagen and Unite hair care products.

I'm told the oft-parodied politico donated all of her gift items back to the Silver Spoon for auction, as well as about $1,700 of her own cash, in support of multiple Red Cross efforts, including those in Haiti and Chile.

Palin's middle child, Willow, got her hair styled, receiving a blowout from Erick Orellana of the Chris McMillan Salon (Jennifer Aniston's longtime hairstylist).

And you thought it was funny seeing the "Jersey Shore" cast nab gifts during the Golden Globes.

Sound off on Palin's Academy Awards outing in comments.

OOPS! I think I mistakenly wandered into a cattery.

Giving back the gifts.

Damn.

She would have made a great VP

Your typical classy comments from the left - if you want to see trash look in the mirror.

The nerve of that money-grubbing, fetus-concealing Christianist. Sic her, Andrew!

Thanks for the well written article. It is a shame that so many of the comments are of a hateful nature. Please don't be discouraged by the venom that others have. Continue to bring us more positive stories such as this whether the person helping the charities is liberal, conservative, or something else.

Those going apoplectic over Palin might want to consider that what they've written won't be read by, nor will affect, the former governor; yet gives away how easily one person gets under their skin. Trust me, it's neither empowering nor flattering.

I got a chuckle from the anti-Palin folks not realizing she was in town for Leno.

Almost as funny as the attacks on Huffington Post when commenters called Campbell Brown a "slut" for marrying a Republican guy "just to enhance her career." Awkward.

Someone on this blog declared that SP has ''class''. Did Webster change the meaning of class and neglected to tell the rest of us?

It is the hypocrisy that stinks. She denounces all Hollywood, even though she was there to donate – she should have done it and left, no need to get any goodies from all things evil, disgusting hollyweird, (isn’t that the way she calls them?) and yet she is desperately trying to be like them. I mean only the knuckleheads like her don’t get it. It is not because I do not like the woman, it is because she does not have and she pretends to have and there those like her who are buying into it. She wants to be in the spotlight. She has seized and she has grabbed and will not let go. She will not let it out until she profits more and more from it. She is phony with capital P and she does not care about the heartland of America, she cares about her heartland. The true Americana. Good for her miss celebrity self; oops, that’s what she called the president! How hypocrite!

The most amusing part of this is watching the frantic scrambling to find a bad thing to say. Let's see — start with the writer, who talks about the gift bag but has to admit finally that not only did Palin give back all the gift bag, but also popped for another $1700 from her own pocket — still to be called "looting" by the first commenter. Then there's the commenter who doesn't quite grasp that Bristol — the unwed mother — and Willow are different people. And yes, it doesn't seem likely that Palin is going to be out of the news, so I recommend learning some coping skills. And let's just pass over the glaring hypocrisy of fretting about the gift bag and Bristol's kid, seeing as we could pick out a dozen "beautiful people" who've done the same thing but don't get the same treatment.

And that's just the first three comments.

I'm still not clear why it is that the media follows her every move. Someone is not a 'newsmaker' just by virtue of being in the news - like the Paris Hilton of politics. Apparently, like pictures of Brittany, Palin sells because there is no other explanation on why so much media space is devoted to her every twitter. Not sure if it's a public obsession, or just a media one. Either way, it's scary that some talking head can be forced onto all of us whether we watch Fox or not.

Is anyone surprised that Sarah showed up for free stuff? Is anyone surprised that a would-be politician/celebrity demanded special treatment? Is anyone surprised that her whopping big check of $1700 (this from a multimillionaire) donation is hyped to make her appear even more special? So where are the photos from her little swag spree? And if she really donated back all the stuff she took - why would she take it in the first place? I've read this story on several other webstes and everyone else is saying there were no photos allowed, no interviews granted, and nothing was donated back, although she did fork over the check for $1700. And STILL her fans are outraged that anyone would dare criticize her for this little binge...

Clearly, the venemous comments here reveal the genuine mean-spiritedness of the posters. The Mirror of Life is fully in play, and you fail to see that you are becoming the hatefulness that you think you see in others.

I'm not a liberal or conservative. Libertarian, in fact, and I believe Sarah Palin to be a walking disaster. I'm not jealous, I don't hate her, but I do think she's a hypocrite. She's obviously trying to stay in the public eye to keep a high profile until 2012. Cool. Just own up to it. For all of you who support her, doing so to spite liberals is really childish. This is the future of our nation, and our leaders should be selected based on their abilities, not to "win" against the other side. This is why I wash my hands of dems and reps. You can all have each other.

@Leesa

That's kind of rude. Katie Couric is a widow.

That was not Sarah's own money! That was SarahPac money! Your grandparents money!

This is how SarahScam works. She gives $1700 of her money or SarahPac money and then gets reimbursed by SarahPac.

Same scam as when she bought $40,000 worth of her own book with SarahPac money and turns around and sells them at her book signings!

"why is this news? The woman is a walking disaster.

Posted by: Confused | Mar 03, 2010 at 03:10 PM"

So let me get this straight. A woman accepts a pirate's ransom worth of loot, turns around and sends it to auction to raise funds for charitable organizeaions, and somehow this is a disaster? You, and your extremist views are the true disaster here. I'm sure all the folks in Haiti who will benefit from this, and who know something about disasters, will welcome her overwhelming generosity.

not to mention her appearance on leno crushed letterman........

why isn't daughter Willow in school? or is education only for the liberal elite?

There's a number of photos at JustJared. Palin posed with the workers, signed t-shirts and other items.

How is this looting if they give the stuff out for free and she returned the stuff to be auctioned off to benefit Haiti...along with her own money? Seriously, people. How is this a BAD thing?

Palin @ Leno - AAA+

Amazing. A five paragraph article that uses all small words and the haters can't figure out which daughter was along for the outing or notice the clear statement that the swag was given to charity in addition to a personal donation.

No doubt the same people are the ones who blast Palin for being incurious and barely literate.

Now maybe you can fake being "smart" to your friends by parroting the standard insults and class elitist slurs about human beings being "trash", but the world is a bigger place and most people can tell when a small person hates for the sake of hating.

It's ugly.

She what!!! She took FREE stuff that they were giving away for FREE?!! Wait! And then she gave that stuff away along with her own money to charity?!! The nerve of that woman.

Bob she is not a Dem, so dont' sweet the tax thingee.

John Cutlan wrote, "Another sterling example of Republican parenting. And look at the message it sends to teenage girls - get knocked up by your boyfriend who leaves you and you get the celebrity treatment!"

Another sterling example of liberal intelligence and reading comprehension. And it's not even original: Letterman did the same thing. Willow Palin is 15 and was not "knocked up" and abandoned. Shame on you, Cutlan.

But liberals believe a guy who knocks up a girl and abandons her deserves the celebrity treatment (hint: Levi Johnston).
