Kate Winslet, director husband Sam Mendes to divorce

Kate and sam Academy Award winning actress Kate Winslet and her director husband Sam Mendes are getting a divorce, the couple's legal reps announced Monday.

“Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” say the British reps, "the split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."

The couple have a 6-year-old, Joe, and Winslet's daughter Mia, 9, from a previous marriage to director Jim Threapleton.

Mendes is best known for his 1999 awards juggernaut "American Beauty." He'll next helm the latest "James Bond" installment with Daniel Craig.

Winslet is the 2009 Oscar recipient for lead actress for her performance in "The Reader." She thanked Mendes in her acceptance speech.

Mendes directed Winslet opposite her "Titanic" costar Leonardo DiCaprio in the heavy 2009 couples drama "Revolutionary Road."

Absolutely did not see this coming? Wow. Kate back on the market, should be interesting. Glad to see that it was amicable tho... says a lot about both of them.

Sorry to hear that...and I wish the Times would not include snarky links that read: "In a mood to feel more celebrity pain? Click here and scroll down for more tales of celebrity divorce."
