Chaz Bono asks court to make new name, gender official
Chaz Bono, the child of Cher and Sonny Bono formerly known as Chastity, has filed for a legal change of name and gender, E! News reports.
"Chaz Bono has filed a formal petition in California Superior Court to legally change his name and gender," said Kristina Wertz of the Transgender Law Center, speaking with E!
Bono's doctor has filed a declaration that a gender-change operation was performed in 2009. TMZ first reported the name change filing.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for May 6.
