It’s an explosion of casting news in the world of dweeb franchises!

First, Captain America. Per The Hollywood Reporter, John Krasinski of ‘The Office’ is at the top of the list to play the jingoistic World War II hero. Along with Krasinski, other actors in the running are Chace Crawford, Mike Vogel of ‘Cloverfield,’ Patrick Flueger from the film ‘Brothers,’ ‘Smallville’ actor Michael Cassidy and Scott Porter of TV’s ‘Friday Night Lights.’

Of course, none of this is to be confused with Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Green Hornet (Seth Rogen), Theseus (Henry Cavill), Spider-Man (nobody knows) or, yes, really, Speedy Gonzales (George Lopez).

But all of this is of low import compared with this other majorly major piece of dweeb news: They’re starting to cast for “The Hobbit.” And one of the people in the running? Matthew Goode, the horrifically wooden male lead from “Leap Year.” Clearly this is the work of Sauron.

Who would make a better Bilbo Baggins? Tell us is in the comments section below.
