Although a few of our sister blogs probably think there are bigger things at stake for the Golden Globe Awards -- like maybe which of the finest filmmakers will take top honors -- the Ministry knows what’s really important: fashion hits and disasters.

Our fashionista friends over at All the Rage have a head start on red-carpet analysis, and they’ll have a photo gallery of red-carpet fashions too. But, expertise aside, why should they have all the fun?

In the spirit of the season, I turned to some experts for insights on what you may see walking down the red carpet this year. Take a peek, then give us your thoughts on the predictions and your favorite past looks from the Globes!

In the fashion department, celeb and movie stylist Lindsay Albanese says the Globes specifically bring out the fun in glamor.

‘The Globes is pretty glamorous, so expect lots of sequins, embellishment and chiffon,’ she told me at The Hospitality Suite presented by Pascal Mouawad.

‘But the thing is, compared to the Oscars, it’s a much looser show. I think the looks will be nothing too constructed, lots of flowy pieces and definitely flash.’

Albanese, who is dressing the likes of actress Elise Neal for Globes festivities, has one tip for any lady braving the carpet: ‘Always wear Spanx. No matter what shape you are, it smooths everything out.’

As for the hairstyle, which is all-important, Josh Rosebrook of L.A.’s the Parlour on 3rd salon, said he hoped for a fusion of sophistication and creativity in a Globes ‘do.

‘I’m a fan of the up-do, but nothing too sleek and polished. I’d like to see maybe half the hair pinned and then, with the rest, something fun and relevant to the star.’

Much like last year, however, he thinks that pageant hair is coming back to town.

‘Lately, the only interpretation of edgy hair is to make it big. Think Debra Messing’s huge ponytail or Drew Barrymore’s hot-roller waves. So if someone’s trying to go out of the box, we’re likely going to see height.’

Josh’s red-carpet don’t: ‘No pin curls. Pull the hair out of the face for some elegance, then play around for a hybrid look like last year’s from Kate Winslet.’

And now to the bling. Gem expert Michael O’Connor has been advising film and TV stars for years on what jewels to rock with their gowns.

‘Just coming out of a recession, celebrities will be a little more cautious and won’t overdo it,’ O’Connor said.

‘Where jewelry is concerned, a large statement necklace set in platinum, forgoing big earrings and bracelets. If they stack bracelets, they’ll forgo a necklace.’

As far as color is concerned, cooler palettes like blues and greens are all the rage, ‘Therefore, look for more colored-gemstone combinations with tanzanite, sapphire and blue topaz.’
