Almost the end of the show -- and then it’s the crush to move along to one or more of the many after-parties on site.

Nooo it was just Russell Brand’s hair -- on a stranger!! I’d thought I’d seen Russell Brand, and was wondering why ‘Katy Perry’ looked so different. The answer was, it wasn’t Russell. Fortunately, vivacious child actress Ariel Winter from ‘Modern Family’ really did turn out to be Ariel Winter. Or at least that’s what her mom said./cdz

The shoes? Around midnight, nearly 100% foot fail occurred; I’d decided to sit after 12 hours in 4.5-inch platforms, then expected to be able to walk again. Muscles spent, wobbly walk falling firmly between comedy and tragedy, I make it to the lobby from the top floor and stop to scout a path to the valet, or maybe a chair. The hotel entrance looks different with the red carpet rolled up and the beautiful people gone home.

No chairs.

At this point, Paolo, from Italy (he’d had an uncredited role in ‘300,’ you know), decides to chat me up. I smile and nod. Bolts of pain shoot up my legs. He tells amusing stories. I tell him he reminds me of my evil ex. He apologizes for this. I consider that total tush-over-teacups foot collapse is looming. Urgently, I tell Paolo that although it’s been swell chatting, if he doesn’t let me go, there’s a good chance I’m going to fall down in the middle of the lobby and humiliate us both.

Moments later, I’m leaning against the lobby desk, unzipping the monster shoes.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Buona notte, Paolo/cdz
