Dennis Hopper, battling prostate cancer, files for divorce

Dennis hopper Dennis Hopper, who has been battling prostate cancer since last fall, has filed for divorce from Victoria Duffy, his wife of nearly 14 years.

"I wish Victoria the best, but only want to spend these difficult days surrounded by my children and close friends," the 73-year-old actor said in a statement. He has just begun another round of chemotherapy treatment.

Hopper cited "irreconcilable differences" for the split from his fifth wife, though reports suggest that (how do we put this nicely?) financial considerations might be fueling the move. Hopper's rep said the two were "having trouble" but have still been living together.

Duffy was an actress when the two married. Hopper is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Galen.

it is all about him and his money. i feel sorry for his wife of 14 years. why is he lying about who he is going to be with during his chemo and radiation. it says they still live in the same house.

his wife of 14 years should not buy into his cancer issue and should fight for half of his money. they have a child together. he is trying to screw her. people fall for the big c diagnosis, but what about his wife and her future, after 14 years of being married to him. he is very self centered.

sorry to hear he has, what sounds like, very advanced prostate cancer. what a tragedy. why do bad though, dennis, to your wife of 14 years, before you might leave the planet soon.....

I agree with the anoymous comment. It's sad to see that but it's they way of the business. He may know these are his last days and he wants to keep his money right where he wants it. That's how it works with these rich and famous people.

Ok, here is a 14 year marriage, and its (already) ugly. The illness to cheat her, other things can be verified. She clearly is not in a harmonous union with Hopper. If there is this truth to his condition, sympathy is not something that automatically tilts to her. As for the money, art, etc, that is where the court comes in the matter.
