Charlie Sheen, Brooke Mueller plan to go to counseling

Actor Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller plan to go to counseling, People magazine reports, including anger-management sessions for him, after a Christmas Eve fight at a friend’s house spilled over to Christmas morning and wound up involving the police.

A source told People: ‘Both of them were drinking and neither was supposed to be. They both have histories of alcohol abuse and have made every effort to stop. But things got out of hand.’

The couple may also check into rehab together, RadarOnline reports. Dr. Drew in the house, anyone? The ‘Two and a Half Men’ star has already been to rehab twice, for cocaine and alcohol use ...

Though Mueller was in Aspen with their twin sons and Sheen had remained in L.A., People reports that the two ‘have never been separated’ -- we assume in the legal-marital sense of the word. Sheen returned to Los Angeles on Christmas night after posting bail; Mueller, who reportedly has refused a follow-up interview with police, stayed in Aspen with the kids.

Sheen was arrested Dec. 25 on suspicion of menacing, second-degree assault and criminal mischief; the first two are felony counts. He has been accused of using a weapon in the alleged domestic violence incident, but police spokeswoman Stephani Donato would not comment on what type.

Brooke is Charlie’s third wife -- he was previously married to model Donna Peele from 1995 to 1996, and then to actress Denise Richards from 2002 to 2006.

Sheen pleaded no contest in 1997 to attacking then-girlfriend Brittany Ashland, an adult-film actress, at their home. He paid a $2,800 fine and got two years probation, court-ordered counseling and 300 hours of community service. His relationship with actress Kelly Preston, then his fiancee, ended in 1990 after he shot her in the arm, an incident requiring minor medical attention; both said it was an accident.

Chief Deputy Dist. Atty. Arnold Mordkin said Monday that the menacing charge is the most serious, usually carrying a sentence of two to eight years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $500,000. Mordkin says a decision on whether to prosecute Sheen isn’t expected until shortly before the actor’s Feb. 8 court date.
