POLL: Adam Lambert's AMA performance: Provocative or porn?

Adam1

Holy cannoli, the Ministry of Gossip's comments are going wild over Adam Lambert's, ahem, unique performance of his tune "For Your Entertainment" on the 2009 American Music Awards.

Folks are either "What the??" or "Oh yeah!"

So the Ministry's Division of Absolutely Accurate Online Statistics is jumping into research mode.

What did you think of the number, which aired on prime-time network TV? If you didn't see it,and if the younger kids aren't still around, you might want to buckle your seat belt before voting and watch the video of the performance -- after the jump.

We're keeping it there so it doesn't bite any of the other posts.

Oh please, I've seen worse in a Madonna's children book.

The Adam Lambert AMA performance was disguasting. He has fallen in my eyes and in the eyes of many, who adored him for his talent and singing performances on Idol. My opinion is that Adam does not need any dancers to accompany his singing. He did not get it on Idol and got success for his vocal abilities and artistic performances. This is what we like to see in Adam. He must remember that the list of his fans include children and teenagers. And to popularize oral sex on the stage is immoral and cheap. Cheap popularity and bad taste. The case with Adam is like wisdom says: nobody can harm a human as strongly as he does it to himself. That was wrong, Adam! You disappointed millions of your fans, and now we are thinking of you as of a fallen idol.

I loved him on American Idol but this performace was discusting. It should not have been aired during prime time. Think of all the innocent children who had to witness this filth!

@kjk -- Since when does kissing another man, a woman being dragged across a stage, and crotch-grabbing part of a song? It isn't. Lambert and his fellow "artists" were not taking risks or testing boundaries, as you insist, but degrading themselves! That is NOT entertainment!

Just one more reason to leave the television OFF.

Enjoyed Lambert's performances on Idol, but I guess he doesn't care about his audience. He's gonna do what HE wants to do.

Okey, but not payin' for it.

What was so shocking about it? I thought Madonna was more shocking, with her concerts, that sex book, etc. I just wish the guy he kissed was me!

Look, Adam Lambert can express himself any which way he wants, but it was the networks responsibility to either post a warning that said "the material you are about to see is not suitable for young viewers", or sensor it for the kids. The music awards is a show for family viewing, and his performance was totally inappropriate for kids. Simulating oral sex, grabbing crotches and showing signs of domination and rough sex is something that kids do not need as a first introduction to sex. Her performance was adult material period! Do you think Adam cares about kids? Or does he even care how kids are made? I doubt he will be making any kids. You certainly did not see Eminem grabbing his own crotch during his performance because he has a child and he knows better now!

Wow, who knew that during American Idol he was holding back?

Since the over reaction to Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction my TV has bored me to death. I'm glad Adam Lambert has shown up to bring back the outrageous the unexpected and to spit in the face of monotony.

I will not settle for a bland sanitized culture forced on me by the 10 second delay. I will not follow beige trends prompted by mannequin like personalities famous for accomplishing nothing. I’ve shut my window to their narcissistic tweets.

I long for pre reality show reality. I want to like my TV again.

No longer satisfied to sit and watch TV I go online and interact with the medium directly until It reveals itself to me. Like a puzzle, the right word or combination on the right search engine get’s me access to what was censured. Every dead end shapes my criteria until I crack the façade. When I’m able to see, hear, and understand all that has been bleeped cut or denied I focus the search even more, flushing out substance, depth, value, until finally I find a voice I can listen to. One that will expand my awareness of myself, others, and the world as it functions.

I have out foxed the fox.

Loved the performance.....give him a break...I'm a 44 year old straight female and love the song as well as his rendition of it......he is a performer, let him perform....his song last night was no different that Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" or Brittany Spears & Madonna's kiss...he is right, there is a double standard for what is acceptable for women and not for men...GO ADAM!!

For the life of me, I can't imagine why ABC would bleep the verbal vomit that spewed from Eminem's mouth so many times, and then turn around and completely ignore the visual disgusting display of Lambert's performance. ABC should have ended the telivised version as soon as he walked on the stage. Porn or Pop?????? At least porn is watched behind the closed doors of someone's private choices. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww is RIGHT!!!!

I was embarrassed for him...

It was like he was a little kid acting like a fool just to get some attention. Kinda like an ode to the "shock" performers of our day (Madonna, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, etc) but done in a really bad and uncoordinated way. I had a flashback to a bad college musical I saw once... Pretty sure that song was too "pop" to be rocked out like that too. The antics didn't go with the music. I dunno, I'm not usually one to pick apart a performer. Lord knows I will never be a famous singer or dancer in my lifetime... but I just didn't get it. I kept waiting for something to happen... but it never did. Cool hair though.

I applaud Adam for taking the risk. This is a very talented young man. I'm sure he wanted to put on a memorable performance and thats exactly what he did. He did nothing worse than what some others have done. It was sexy and provocative but he is a singer and a performer and guess what thats what he did. The whole time he was on American Idol he was different and last night was no exception. He crossed lines and dared to be different and I think it payed off, and the fact that people called to complain only brings more attention to him, and who wouldn't want the publicity? Very good job Adam!

I was watching the awards with my children. I let them stay up late to finish the show. I thought it was disgusting. Hey I know sex sells, but come on. He needs to clean up his act. I felt like he was getting his sexuality out there for all to see, than to love the performance. The Adam scream can go to the curb too!

I loved Adam. I didn't even care if he was gay. I don't care what he does in his free time but.... I was ready to
buy his cd at midnight. After watching this horrible show on primetime television I will not buy it. What are you thinking Adam? You just blew it with all of us that voted for you over and over. You have way too much talent for this. It was a mess and I will not be supporting Adam. You lost this sale for sure. I was sad last night when I had to make that decision. JUST SAD..............

To all the people whining about "bad parents" who let their children stay up late on a school night, let me remind you that the world does not run on East Coast time; it's not a big deal for a 12 year old to stay up til TEN pm to see her favorites, Taylor Swift and Adam Lambert (yes, only a tween can diverge like that). Yes, I was shocked, she was shocked, and yes, it was inappropriate, but we'll live. To Adam, I can only say: Dude, before you can go over the top, you need to BE at the top. Only stars can get away with that. And no matter how much talent you have, and you do have it, you have a long way to go, and I'm not sure that burying your talent in a bondage mess is the way to do it.

I loved Adam's performance. I love to be shocked. He is the most exciting performer of this generation. I think he should tour with Lady Gaga. What a show that would be. I bought Adam's CD today, and it is a masterpiece. It is absolutley amazing. Every song is great. I couldn't stop listening to "BROKEN OPEN", so beautiful

@Olderfan. I agree with you, but maybe because I am literally an "older fan" .

We will not get over it or lighten up! That was a disgusting, perverted, display! You don't need talent for that! He should be ashamed but we know that he is not! There is no shame any more! I hope his parents are proud!! I have a feeling that they are not! I long for the days when this kind of behavior was unacceptable and condemned! Where is our conscience America! What have we become! God help us!

My wife and I saw AI all season long and almost predicted to a tee the out-come. but I never expected this. Adam was very self indulgent and should have thought about the crowd he was singing to. The Country Music Artists are just coming into themselves and making a big splash in the pop culture and then Adam does this WOW!!! what was he thinking...."wait till you have your own concert for what you want to do, don't expect the world watching to love it" As the saying goes, "THERE IS A TIME AND A PLACE" and this was not the time nor the place for Adam to do what he did. I am an Artist and I understand "SHOCK VALUE" But dude grow legs before you run.......

To Those of You Upset By Adam’s Performance at the AMA’s:

Imagine Adam at the Zodiac Show or perhaps as a new singer for Queen. I'm sure you would expect the same "in your face" attitude which is befitting a rock star. We truly loyal fans witnessed it during the AI tours, so most of us were prepared for and eagerly awaiting the sexual energy that he exudes. I’m sure you’ve heard about the lingerie and assorted sex toys being thrown on the stage when he performed.

Adam has that "I want to do it my way" attitude, a sure sign of a great artist. Obviously many Americans weren't quite ready for him to fly his freak flag quite so high. I think the shock was that he's a gay man doing similar things that many female artists have done in the past, and in fact were doing at these very AMA’s. A change definitely needs to come.

I do think there could have been perhaps more warnings and ratings right before his performance at the AMA's. But at that time of night, I guess it was assumed that children were in bed. I truly do not believe he was trying to be offensive. He cares about children, as evidenced by his contest among his fans with Donors.Choose.org in which over $220,000 was raised for schools. He’s a nice guy who was a little too rambunctious for his first show.

Please don't let one performance persuade you to ignore listening to his music. He is an extraordinarily talented singer, and such a kind-hearted, intelligent, and articulate soul. If you are offended in any way by this performance, please open your heart, give him another chance and listen to the music. You won’t be sorry. There were so many talented songwriters who worked with him, and he's worked so very hard to entertain us.

We love you, Adam!

I really rooted for him during the IDOL, but now see why Allen won. I watched the AMA's last night, but had to change the channel when the crotch move appeared. I was very offended by it. He claims it's discrimination. I say it's lack of taste. I don't want to see anyone do that on TV in primetime, I don't care what their sexual preference is. It has nothing to do with that. I'm sure he has his "followers", but there's millions of us that will never spend a dime on his music now....very disappointed...oh yeah and did I say the song was a let down?

You know, I REALLY wanted to be a fan. I REALLY did.

Not anymore.

YES, Britney did it. But look at the respect she gets now. NONE.

And Adam, you're GAY. WE GET IT.

But really? In primetime? A dude's face in your crotch? Thats not freedom of expression, thats disrespect. I dont even want to see straight people having sex in prime time, much less Freddy Mercury-lookalikes.

Im disappointed in you, Adam. You let EVERYONE down.

Was it risky?
Absolutely! Judging by some of the responses
Was I surprised/shocked?
Absolutely not!??? This is Adam Labert not Howdy Doody.
Was it pornographic?
Absolutely NOT! Puhleeze, give me a break!
Was it perfect?
Absolutely not,it's live TV. Although that summersault has to go down as probably THE greatest recovery in tv history!
Did That matter?
Absolutely not! There was so much else going on I hardly noticed.
Was it clever strategy?
Absolutely! How much free mileage is Adam getting out of this?
Was it "Adam"?
Absolutely 100% GLAMBTASTIC!
Was it ENTERTAINING and did I freakin'loove it? Absofreakin'lutely!!!!

I agree, Brittany and Madonna as well as other performers have done very similar things onstage, but that doesn't make it appropriate. Lambert should change his name to Lame-bert because that was the most disgusting, appalling performance I've ever seen. I feel bad for all the younger kids who had to be subjected to seeing such tawdry, tasteless trash.......trash which should have never been aired on TV......let alone during prime time. It's the obnoxious, "in your face" gay guys that give all gay guys a bad name. That performance was an embarrassment to the entire gay community.

Can we say double standard? Madonna and Brittney kiss on stage and it's no big deal. Lambert performance wasn't the best but who cares. We have seen worse!
