POLL: Adam Lambert's AMA performance: Provocative or porn?

Adam1

Holy cannoli, the Ministry of Gossip's comments are going wild over Adam Lambert's, ahem, unique performance of his tune "For Your Entertainment" on the 2009 American Music Awards.

Folks are either "What the??" or "Oh yeah!"

So the Ministry's Division of Absolutely Accurate Online Statistics is jumping into research mode.

What did you think of the number, which aired on prime-time network TV? If you didn't see it,and if the younger kids aren't still around, you might want to buckle your seat belt before voting and watch the video of the performance -- after the jump.

We're keeping it there so it doesn't bite any of the other posts.

I am rendered speechless at the moment because of the total disgust I have for Adam's performance. I thought he was great on American Idol but the real Adam wasn't what he gave us then. AMA should have censored a healthy portion of last night's performances, but Adam was the worst nightmare of all. He was downright nasty which was not something he should have done if he wanted to be known for with talent in vocals. He should be seen only on the PORN channels, not on AMA or ABC. One could not witness a great singer while watching this ugly display of what...just pure worthless time spent. He ruined AMA even after seeing all the disgusting crotch grabbing, ugly outfits and performers acting like Americans wanted to sit and watch this Porn junk when we wanted to see great talents and who was winning...Who would have thought anything could turn out so elementary...like one just finding out he has genitals, what's going on with talent in America. Adam is not the talent most people want to see, there are porn channels for that stuff....Where are the real singers, no longer one called Adam...he's off the radar, bad news...wish I hadn't wasted my time with American Idol just for Adam, no, I guess I needed to see the real him, don't like him at all now. Wake up American Music Awards, give us better! Thanks!

Sorry, just plain tacky. Not even good as good porn goes. And given that the award went to the "cleanest" performer around, don't you think Adam's "presentation" this missed the mark? I was amused that they bleeped swear words throughout and then let this tasteless performance continue unchecked. Adam has a great voice; it's too bad they need to play these games . . . actually I thought quite a few of the performances were odd -- the people on that stage are amazing vocalists/performers. Do they REALLY have to have a choreograper for every move? I think someone has lost their marbles. Tch tch tch.

Adam scaw-ed me last night. Watched it again this morning and he scaw-ed me again.

EEEK!

Please don't hurt me anymore, Adam. It was NOT good for me, like your lyrics said it would be...(love shouldn't have to hurt!)

:)

I was a huge Adam fan on Idol and think he has amazing talent. A little over the top, but then again, that's Adam and a big reason why we like him - we never know what he will do next. I thought his vocals were a little off. Perhaps he was trying to hard. I wish he didn't move around so much because I thought that hurt his vocals. I still love him, but he will not appeal to a broad audience if he only does shock rock. Couldn't care less about the grinding or kiss, but afraid his vocals will be lost in it.

All you people that believe this was a great performance are the reason this country is in the shape its in. We have lost our moral compass and as a result rape is up children are being abducted raped and murdered at an unprecedented rate and you want to call this entertainment??? Seriously?? Tolerance will soon allow public sex and the justification will be "Well children should not be out after dark". This has nothing to do with sexual orientation this has everything to do with Hollywood and making money!

The AMA's are usually not very entertaining in a good way and last night was no different. The entire show was terrible and Adam's stint (can't even call it a performance) was the cherry on top. I really enjoyed his performances on Idol and also at the Idol touring show which I paid to see. Never did I think he would turn so raunchy. I know I sound just like my parents did when I was younger.... but there is no need for all the sexual displays that they do in their acts, and Adam's was just "foul". There are alot of younger kids who look up to him and what a shame they had to see his display of filth. Shame on all of the foul performers last night and shame on ABC for allowing it to be on. There was so much talent on that stage and as far as I'm concerned they all waste it when they have to add or put disgusting moves in just for sensationalism. I for one was not impressed, it totally made me ill and made this the last time I will waste time watching the AMA's.

My son is OFF from school this week -- it is vacation -- so he did NOT have school and we thought the music awards would be a nice treat to watch since we watch American Idol as a family show. PLUS this was on ABC prime time. We all love Adam Lambert and were excited to see his performance -- NOT! It was horrible and how do you explain these things to an 8 year old. NOT COOL. I really don't care if people want to do male kissing, female kissing -- no biggie so please don't say this is a double standard. It has NOTHING to do with that at ALL. However, gay or straight -- nobody should go down on someone else during an awards ceremony (family show) - that's not cool and very confusing for a child.

Regardless if Brittany or others do this, it is inappropriate for what is normally considered a somewhat family friendly show during prime time. (Not to mention his singing was atrocious!)

Oh and Bill, there is such a thing called Time Zones, so it wasn't 11pm everywhere this was aired.

thought it was lame, there is nothing wrong with being gay who cares about that. The entire thing was lame and his vocals were off a few times.I expected it to be over the top but I just don't think he pulled it off...at all.

To all of you who hated it. Just watch David Letterman tonight. His performance is gonna be a whole different energy. It's gonna be soft and about love. Come on guys, just watch Letterman, and then, if you still think he's awful, he's definately not for you. But before deciding on not buying an artist's music, ya gotta watch more than one performance. And you'll hear him on the CD, not see him. Think about it guys.

shame on ABC for airing it, hopefully he just made career suicide..

The performance was so out there that I didn't focus on the music.

you people are homophobic. a performer bumping and grinding with dancers is scandalous? oh, it's because he's gay. i hope lambert is a superstar for the next 20 years, just to piss you off.

PHENOMENAL. SUPERIOR. AMAZING. RIGHT ON THE MONEY. And for the record: I am a 42 y/o father of 2. My daughter loved it too (she is 17). The man has more talent then practically anybody in music indsutry today (certainly in the upper 5%). I admit initially my shock factor was agap but in replaying, I have no shock and after hearing his own interview after the show, I am even more on his bandwagon.

Only misstep I saw was his outfit/hair seemed not in the same genre-the suit and pompador was my only distraction. The voice will always be #1. The edge is #1. The man can do no wrong in my ears. He can put them in a musically-diabetic coma and I will still be happy.

Lambert was the only interesting moment on an incredibly boring and tedious show. Of course this pointless, faux awards show is always a mess and totally irrelevant, but this was the worst yet.

Thank goodness Lambert livened things up. And boy can that dude sing!

I thought the performance was a little over the top...but Adams wasn't the only one on the AMA awards that was in that same catagory. I love Adam Lambert, pre-ordered his CD last night and am eagerly awaiting its arrivel. I believe Adam is a great singer and his talent will shine through.

Um. Couldn't vote, because you didn't have a button for "Just Awful." I was a Glambert fan on AI, but now -- meh.

I absolutely loved Adam on American Idol. If he sticks with the type of music that he did on that program he will become huge. "Ring of Fire" was genius. I couldn't wait for him to be on stage each week and it only got better with each week.
If he continues with X-rated programing like the AMA awards, I don't see much future for him.
I still love Adam, but cool it down a bit, please.

Adam rocks! This is just entertainment- meant to sell music. IF you had to cover yoyr kid's eyes...that's a shame! I'm sure they hear/see much worse in their neighborhoods and schools...and you then wonder why Jenny is pregnat at 17!

Prince is still the master of live hotness. Lambert has a way to go before he masters the subtleties of provocative performance.

You want to just complain or do you want to do something about it?
Call ABC 818-460-7777 and ask to leave a message for Anne Sweeney (C0-Chair of ABC). Tell her secretary that you were offended by Lambert's performance and you will be boycotting their sponsor's products. They WILL get the message!

I don't think we don't enough raunchy filth on television and in music. I'd like to see Adam up the ante a little bit. His sound is decadent and big, as should his performance be.

His vocals should have been better, but they weren't terrible. I'm honestly surprised ANYONE got offended by this. But obviously this struck a somewhat conservative nerve in folks, and I think is a good thing.

What good is art unless it make people uncomfortable?

Hey all, this is Christie D'Zurilla -- if you're not seeing your comment go live, it's probably because it includes profanity (hard-core, mild, ***'d out or in even in an acronym -- the Ministry is a zero-tolerance zone). Resubmit w/o the cussing and we'll publish ASAP.

Thanks, also, for all of your comments. WOW!!

I don't get it. People on here are saying that it was okay and they compare it to a performance by Brittney and/or Janet. Well, I would actually have to pay money to go see a Brittney concert and turn my TV to MTV to see Janet's video. This was ABC. It was ridiculous. I mean, one person says that progess is the road to change. Is this progress? Simulating oral sex on stage? What kind of progress is that? I would rent a porn movie if I wanted to see that on TV.

Well, well, well, it did not surprise me at all. I knew I didn't like Adam before his performance and now and I am simply revolted after. What a mess this was and it is sad for him because I really had hoped he would have had a better night and proved to me why I should like his singing.

Kelly Clarkson was the best performer of the night for me, simple, beautiful singing, looking elegant and really showed her talent. The rest of the performances I hit the mute button for because they were all hot messes....it was more of who could outdo who....perhaps now those who sucked last night will know why Taylor Swift was a such big winner this year. It is just plain and simple, who can sing and who can sell records!

LMAO at Adam! Grade: D- for me

Congratulations Michael, you are the best there ever was! RIP my friend
