[UPDATE No. 2] Adam Lambert 'GMA' concert canceled; 'Early Show,' Letterman book him
If you were hoping to catch Adam Lambert performing on "Good Morning America" this Wednesday, or maybe even see the free concert in person in New York, you're out of luck.
The appearance has been canceled.
According to an e-mail from a show coordinator:
"The Adam Lambert Concert on Good Morning America at the Hudson Theatre has been officially cancelled. It is not necessary to come to the theatre because it will be closed. Thank you for your interest in the show and Adam Lambert. We look forward to your attendance at future events."
(This news via BroadwayWorld.com.)
[UPDATE: 10:31 a.m. Nov. 24,2009 However, CBS has jumped at the opportunity to have Adam on "The Early Show" on Wednesday morning to discuss his American Music Awards performance, CBS News confirms.]
[UPDATE: 11:42 a.m., Nov. 24, 2009 And he'll be on David Letterman's show Wednesday night as well, according to CBS. Performance only!
CBS is definitely stepping into the breach, yes?]
At last count, the Ministry was pushing about 10,000 "Yuck!" votes in its poll on Lambert's performance Sunday at the American Music Awards, a show that drew 14.2 million viewers. (Though supportive votes were slightly ahead of that.)
[UPDATE: 8:10 p.m., Nov. 24, 2009 Note that the poll numbers cited above are from when this post originally was published, at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday. Since then, more readers have voted in support of the performance, and the results will continue to change with time/cdz.]
So where are the corresponding complaints about Lambert to ABC?
In comparison, complaints about Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 Super Bowl were in the half-million neighborhood. (Though the $550,000 fine that was levied is still traveling through the court system.)
Time will tell, we suppose. Maybe the people who were upset worked it all out online?
Or perhaps it's more of a silent protest -- and they just won't tune in again in the future.
At least not Wednesday on "Good Morning America."

"I was afraid gay men were getting a bit stuffy, talking about marriage and raising kids and all that. If I wanted that, I'd turn straight!"
I think that this kind of comment is not only ignorant but way out of line against those gay couples who do want to get married. We should all be respecting each other, no matter who we are and no matter what we want out of life.

Adam can have all the fun with his boy toys his flesh can tolerate... just keep him off the media so he does not infest those with still redeemable souls!

Maybe people should consider Britney and Madonna and whoever has great music! Does Adam have any? This is not about sexuality, it is about Music. He is being compared to Michael Jackson crotch touching.....maybe you should consider MJ is one of the greatest artist of all time. Maybe he should consider that. To all those who think people are homophobic, please find a nice hard wall for your head. IT IS MUSIC, WHO CARES ABOUT HIS SEXUALITY. WASN'T IT THE GLAMBERTS WHO SAID THIS DURING AI...

I personally don't have a problem with the kiss, my issue is simulation oral sex. I am glad GMA took this stance. I am all for equality and I would feel this strongly about the oral sex if a female preformer would have done the same thing. The kiss wasn't any differnt than the three way one Madonna had with Britney and Christina.

Of course they canceled the show after that NASTY "performance" he gave. And I voted for Adam, but that was just over the top.

I, for one, welcome our new gay overlords. I may actually begin to watch television again if this is what's showing.

Adam was great when he was on American Idol. Sunday night's performance was nothing like American Idol and I think America made the right choice when they chose Kris Allen.
Adam's parents were so proud when he was competing on Idol. I wonder if after watching his disgustingly outrageous performance on Sunday night, they are just as proud of him.

I like Adam Lambert. He has an amazing voice and he is a gifted performer.
However, Adam crossed the line at the AMA awards. A "class act" gone 'trash act," all in the name of shock.

Oh stop it, get a grip, this is nothing new in music performances, and multiple millions watched and about 1500 complaints. Fine-I'd just like to know how they know every move of the entire performance- oh, yeah, they watched it all. Ha! Actually, this act was done 30 yrs ago by David Bowie and Iggy Pop. If human sexuality scares you, see a shrink. Hatred is immoral, bigotry is immoral, discrimination is immoral, violence is immoral-all the jealousy and bitterness and resentment of Adam's brillant talent and this is just an excuse to try to stop him. Well, he was destined for superstardom and he shall have it. Ha!

Adam Lambert's singing is outstanding-his CD is magnificant and he is a personable thoughtful intelligent but naive kid. I love and support him, and give my sympathy to those who are offended by human sexuality-you will have about 80yrs or so on earth and die without ever having lived. Helen Keller said"Life is Adventure or nothing" Albert Einstein said: "Great Spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds" Nothing new, just the same ol hatred vs love & , like Adam, I prefer love.

I am a very open minded person, but to do that on a prime time when children could watch too, even if this comes from a very talented (and so cute) guy.. But this is sick!
Go treat yourself, Adam! With all due respect, not that you know what is that...But ABC is not a porn place! Your problem what you do in private, but not in public! Not when young minds may take you as a role model! Too bad, you are a talented guy..

Hello, Exactly because this is America he should not have done this in prime time!!!! This is America, not a porn scene! He could do this wherever else, he doesn't have to do this when on prime time, not when kids may be watching! If we love sex (although that was more like S-M!) do we really have to show everybody watching the Awards?! because this is America? Come on!

Speaking for myself, I think that Adam Lambert is one of the most talanted young men, I've had the pleasure to see in a long time. I followed him on "Idol", and knew he was going places. All people in show/music business, have gimics to do just about anything, for noriaty. He's very talented, very good looking, and has a great voice. Elvis Presley had his hips, that were a very big contraversity, back in the 50's. And Madonna, I love her, is very abstract in her performaces, but these people knew what it would take to get it big, comments and all.And they did a wonderful job of it. So, ADAM,go for it, you're great.I wish people would quit dogging him, he's just begining and will have a wonderful career.

wow the american public is so gulable. This was a PR stunt and we're all falling for it. Look at how much press he's getting. It's working like a charm. oh and that song is terrible. Props to Adam for working the system. We're dummies.

I think it was a really lame move on ABC's part to cancel Adam's performance. One risque performance and they're nervous? They watched him on Idol for months, and even had him on their concert series this summer, where he gave an understated performance. Sheesh, give the guy some credit -- he knows that what is appropriate for an Awards Show at 11pm is not appropriate for 8:30am. This whole thing is ridiculous. I doubt most of the people who are outraged stayed up until 11pm to watch Adam perform. Especially since they had to sit through Eminem and 50 Cent Timbaland and Green Day right before they got to Adam. The prudes turned off the TV right there. For every fan lost in this "scandal," Adam is gaining at least 10 more. At the end of the day, I'm boycotting ABC for stupidity, not Adam.

So it's not okay for Adam Lambert to have a guy on a leash in a dance number, but it's totally okay for us to treat prison "detainees" that way.
I guess we have to leave the S & M scenes to the United States Army.

"unappropiate"? I'm sure Adam could care less what an illiterate Traci Taylor thinks. It was 11pm - go to bed if you don't like the night crowd.

This person is a poor role model for our youth and our country. He is about many of things that are wrong, inappropriate and generally disgusting in our society. A plus goes out to any venue and/or network that is willing to not have the person on there show.
Posted by: Sanford | Nov 24, 2009 at 01:58 PM
For those found Adam's performance unappropiate at the AMA, don't you know there's a thing call REMOTE CONTROL? It's 10:50, why are your kids still awake?
Posted by: stevekk | Nov 24, 2009 at 02:06 PM
Adam Lambert is an incredibly talented entertainer---yes, there was shock value to his performance, but it was the LAST gig for the night (10pm) Tell me why children are up that late anyway? If nothing else, there is controversy...and the perfomance was certainly provocative, so Adam's enjoying the bantering, twittering, blogging and google searches....smart boy!! (By the way, great CD, with some incredible soulful ballads as well)

Lambert = Garbage
and so are the channels that air his trash.
Lambert = No Talent

What I don't understand is why people aren't complaining about all the AMA performances. To come down on one breakout performer who put his show together (and put the rehearsal online in advance) while ABC billed his headline act all week as being a shocker is just hypocritical. Anyone who didn't like the show should have had a problem at the very beginning and turned off the TV, not waited until 11pm and then complained that their morals were under attack.t I had my kids stop watching after seeing Lady Gaga's hermaphrodite costume. Why was all this lewdness necessary? Because no one would watch these awards when it was just singing. ABC got their highest viewer ratings yet. This isn't Adam's fault and anyone who said they were shocked is just being insincere.
Posted by: Kris | Nov 24, 2009 at 02:14 PM
Funny..Lady Gaga does more or less of the same type of stuff. Of course since she's female her antics are chalked up to being edgy and "out there," but when a gay man does it - it's just wrong. Very hypocritical and homophobic. Adam is entitled to push the mainstream envelope in the same ways that Lady Gaga has been doing herself for over a year now.
