[UPDATE No. 2] Adam Lambert 'GMA' concert canceled; 'Early Show,' Letterman book him

Adam3 If you were hoping to catch Adam Lambert performing on "Good Morning America" this Wednesday, or maybe even see the free concert in person in New York, you're out of luck.

The appearance has been canceled.

According to an e-mail from a show coordinator:

"The Adam Lambert Concert on Good Morning America at the Hudson Theatre has been officially cancelled. It is not necessary to come to the theatre because it will be closed. Thank you for your interest in the show and Adam Lambert. We look forward to your attendance at future events."

(This news via BroadwayWorld.com.)

[UPDATE: 10:31 a.m. Nov. 24,2009 However, CBS has jumped at the opportunity to have Adam on "The Early Show" on Wednesday morning to discuss his American Music Awards performance, CBS News confirms.]

[UPDATE: 11:42 a.m., Nov. 24, 2009 And he'll be on David Letterman's show Wednesday night as well, according to CBS. Performance only!

CBS is definitely stepping into the breach, yes?]

At last count, the Ministry was pushing about 10,000 "Yuck!" votes in its poll on Lambert's performance Sunday at the American Music Awards, a show that drew 14.2 million viewers. (Though supportive votes were slightly ahead of that.)

[UPDATE: 8:10 p.m., Nov. 24, 2009 Note that the poll numbers cited above are from when this post originally was published, at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday. Since then, more readers have voted in support of the performance, and the results will continue to change with time/cdz.]

So where are the corresponding complaints about Lambert to ABC?

There are a few kicking around, Reuters reports -- 1,500 or so -- but nothing overwhelming. The FCC couldn't confirm or deny receiving complaints.

In comparison, complaints about Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 Super Bowl were in the half-million neighborhood. (Though the $550,000 fine that was levied is still traveling through the court system.)

Time will tell, we suppose. Maybe the people who were upset worked it all out online?

Or perhaps it's more of a silent protest -- and they just won't tune in again in the future.

At least not Wednesday on "Good Morning America."

Truly, this was not about the man-man kiss.
And I'm a huge Adam fan, by the way.
This is about gathering a huge fanbase on a pretty conservative, family-oriented show. Creating a fanbase that, like it or not, contains kids and tweens who WERE watching and had every right to watch a musical awards show. And then--before even becoming "established" (officially releasing a record) being so in-your-face sexual that it even shocked some older fans (like me, and I'm far from conservative).
I wouldn't have given a rat's behind over the kiss. Even with kids watching. The simulated sex and the grabbing of crotches and the finger gestures (I can't believe all this occured in such a short space of time) was just too much.
SING!--prove that you're a great Singer and Performer that doesn't need to resort to gimmicks before you scream artistic freedom and breaking down barriers.
IMO, it just showed a lack of trust in his own talent.

It's me, Christie D'Zurilla, with a reminder about the Ministry's zero-tolerance policy for profanity in comments. That includes hard-core words, acronyms, words with "***" where the dishy letters are supposed to be, even mild cuss words you'd probably say in front of your mom.

Please resubmit without profanity and your post will be up ASAP! And thanks so much for reading and commenting. :)

Good for you "Good Morning America!" You have made a responsible decision. A responsible decision is something that the rest of you out there should also make! There is a bigger picture here besides artistry. The foundation of this country has always been family and the message we send to our children. We have to respect and watch out for the messages we send to our future leaders! Remember where we came from, who we are, and who we want to remain. A country that leads the world must act appropriately or we will weaken at the foundation!

Oh, Adam. How could you. What got you where you are (were) is (was) your exceptional vocal range, your prolific interpretation and versatility, and yes, your unabashed be-true-to-you presentation. YOUR TALENT got you where you deserve(d) to be. You could have been brilliant, had you shown the dignity and dazzle of - say - the great Freddy Mercury. Freddy like to shock, surprise, and dazzle - but it was always with complete grace, professionalism and true entertainment. Your AMA was none of the above. So - grow up, reflect, reboot, make your amends, and come back with something that matches your potential. IF you're lucky enough to get a second chance. P.S. I'm old (57), wise, and non-judgmental. You blew it, kid - pardon the pun.

I think the network should have negotiated his act that was to appear on their show after seeing the AMA show. Not cancel it totally, they should have called him in for a meeting with some conditions. THE AMA show was over the top and would not be suitable for their target audience. Adam has a lesson to learn about politics and FCC. This might be a good time to review your act and make the act fit the audience it is intended for. Welcome to the world of discrimination in all kinds of ways. Stratification, conservative sexuality is the mainstay of the networks. Also, a lot of conservative WASP men run and own the networks therefore their homophobia is very clear. However, I do remember Britney Spears simulating sex in her winding hips on the Oprah Show (Day time) and I remember Madanna copulating on the ground in "Like a Virgin", In any event, know your Audience and learn the FCC rules Adam.

Hopefully all this hub bub will die down and be history, as for Good morning America cancelling his performance, there's going to be a lot of dissapointed people, this is only adding to his publicity. yes it was over the top but not terribly shocking, maybe a little perogative but not pornographic the moments were fleeting, if you look at the rehearsal on you tube it's no different to the actual performance, if anything I think this will enhance his career, I remain a loyal fan.

Well I guess ABC is starting to figure out that maybe Adam Lambert might cost them more than they bargained for.....Thank you GMA for having a little backbone.

I now have start complaining to CBS....AND ALL OF THE SPONSORS OF THE EARLY SHOW. I'm just getting started.

I will be watching the early show tomorrow!!!!!!

GMA sucks any way....who's been watching it? their reports aren't interesting, the way the "personalities" (for lack of a better term) are so incredibly fake and over done, and there's no news in their news program. It's become a celebrity circus with bits of sensationalism reporting. Everything they report is "amazing" "ground breaking" "incredible"....not even close!!!! THEY'RE SO BEYOND FAKE!!! Ugh, and Diane is the worst...followed by that clown Sam. I miss Charlie!!!!

Well, I for one am totally disappointed in this decision by the network weenies. Yes, his performance made my eyes pop open, but then so did several other artists' performances at the AMA. What a bunch of hypocrites. And as for those "moral" guards--who asked you to censor what I am watching? Why is sex such a bugaboo in this country but not war or intolerance or hatred of anything different? GMA has lost me as a loyal watcher. I will be tuning in to The Early Show from now on.

GOOD FOR CBS BOOKING ADAM LAMBERT.LIKE HIS PERFORMANCE(I WASN'T TO THRILLED WITH IT) ON AMA OR NOT,HE IS A SUPER TALENT.I'M A 62 YEAR OLD GREAT GRANDMOTHER AND REALLY WOULD HAVE LIKED HIM TO SING THE THEME SONG FROM "2012" ,BUT HIS CHOICE WAS TO SHOCK.SO HAVE A DOZEN OTHER ARTISTS IN THE PAST.AND WHY HAS DICK CLARK TAKEN THE VIDEO OFF THE INTERNET? WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS VISIT ON DAVID LETTERMAN?DID I MISS IT OR DID THEY ALSO CANCEL?

I'm perhaps one of the few gay guys that could care less about Adam Lambert's performance. No offense, but the poor thing thought it's all about his show and not so much about his singing. I think his publicists and managers failed him. They told him "Go Gay" and THAT'S what came out. Looking forward to hearing about Adam Lambert 5 years from now "happily" living in Vermont selling wooden statues with his partner, 30 years his elder. *shrug*

Sorry, Adam, but do you hear that - *tick, tick, tick* - your 15 minutes of fame is almost over.

I supossed it was coming....Here, we ve the best example of double standard of the american people. I think its horrible, this is a real act of discrimination... why do they call themselves "developed people"... lol...Apparently they lack too...They cause wars, but youre angry when a guy show himself as it is in a show... you should be embarrased...
But it doesnt matter... you know why? because...the rest of the world accepts and loves as Adam Lambert is as an artist and person, we love his soul, his sound, and we apreciate like a person.... dont forget hes a person !
Adam is authentic and different from anything..

Please !!! Open your minds !!!

Forget the gyrations and face-to-crotch action, I was surprised by how awful Adam sounded. I'm not an Adam Lambert fan, I don't watch American Idol, and I didn't watch the AMAs. Everyone on these message boards has been going on about how Adam is a talented singer and performer, so I checked out the video to see for myself.

All I can say is: the awkwardness of his performance had little to do with the sexual displays -- which I actually found boring and typical for a fledgling pop star -- and had more to do with how out of tune and unpolished he sounded. I kind of felt bad for him. Yeesh. He was trying, though, so ... good effort!

If Adam intended to bring some shock value to his game, well, he succeeded. His unimpressive performace totally shocked me.

Let the boycott of CBS begin!!!!!!

GMA caved to the right-wing conservatives who think they are the moral compass for the world. GMA just lost a long-time viewer to The Early Show. WTG mouse channel!

If Adam wants to alienate his American Idol fanbase (especially his adult fans with children or his younger fans under the age of 18), he certainly did a bang up job with his AMA performance. What Adam did was in poor taste and especially for someone's whose audience may consists of people under the age of 18. Not a smart move on his part. On the other side of the coin, people at GMA are a bunch of wimps by cancelling his appearance. People could have just turned off their tvs if they didn't want to watch Adam's performance.

Adams decision to use freedom of speech in art was incorrectly conveyed on National TV.There's a time and place for everything and his message of oral sex was wrong & unapproiate. He seemed to forget there are younger children and families watching the American Awards. Its in GMA's best interest to cancel his performance due to Adams lack of professionalism on national TV.

Way to go CBS!!! This is just crazy on ABCs part. Adam was on GMA last summer and did very toned down, lovely accoustic version of Starlight. Adam has already said he changes his performance to work with the vibe of the song. ABC knows that and are just being fools. ABC got 1500 complaints from a viewership of 14.5 million!! It was the most watched AMAs since 2002 and they advertized Adam as "a performance you won't beleive" all week!! I have never seen such an ridiculous double standard. This is blatant discrinination!!!

Yes Lizzy we wouldn't want artistic freedom to come out on Prime Time TV - not in America!! We prefer total sex scenes on Soap Operas when are kids are awake and after that we want violence, murder, rape and of course the token women humping stripper poles that we get in the PrimeTime TV every night. Oh and the gril on girl threesome on 90120 was great! This week they are having a girl with guy wrestling match on 90120. We really should be afraid of Adam Lambert!! He was on GMA last summer doing a really beautiful accoustic version of Starlight - so frightening!!

To the adam haters that think his 15 minutes of fame is up. Check his album sales ! Adam is not going anywhere, except to the top of his game. He is one exceptional entertainer and if you close minded, double standard jerks can't accept him for what he is don't watch or read anything about hum. He's got loyal fans that accepts him for what he is. Go to listen to your usual boring entertainers.

Go ahead Early Show....it won't be worth it

You know, when Jim Morrison either did or not show something extra during the Doors performance in 1969, there was a lot of "outrage", too.

When Madonna took to wearing underwear as fashion, there was "outrage", too.

And how can we forget Brittany Spears naughty Catholic girl routine?

Look, it's fair if you weren't expecting what happened, but grow up people. He's a performer, it was the AMA's, and if you didn't like it CHANGE THE FREAKIN' CHANNEL. All this complaining and you'd swear we had no other television choices.

I'm beginning to think that all anybody does anymore is complain. Nothing constructive, no critical thought. It seems for some years now that if something offends somebody's "morals", for some reason we're supposed to share in the "outrage". Myself, I don't share the same "morals" and don't feel the need to force people to force people to abide by what I believe. Everybody is different, sees the same things differently, and cookie cutter approaches are fantasy. You don't like it, change channels. It's that simple.

I wondered why Adam's stellar magnificant voice sounded a bit off and the fall-even tho marshall arts style fast reboud- I finally "get it" scared but courageous, Adam wanted to end discrimination in the arts and he put everything on the line. Well, there are millions who are so afraid of sexuality -even to read the Margaret Mead and the Kinsey studies-yet they play violent torture, abuse, kill computer games and watch violent shows, send their kids to horror movies. Hey Adam, you are the best new singer/performing artist in years, and I finally understand your performance. I love your CD. I'm straight gal saying I envy that kiss and I want one too. Yup.

Too bad just one performance could raise such a furor in the land of the free ... are only the outraged people of America 'free' to say/do/force their opinions on everyone? And are we all to go along with the minority's views on this "issue"? Where is this moral outrage for the other performers (established stars) who did basically the same thing; Janet J., Rihanna, Shakira, all the foul mouthed rappers ... why aren't they being chastised by you, the 'moral minority'? Your convoluted thinking is making America the laughingstock of the world. Next time just turn off the program and find something that you want to watch and STOP COMPLAINING! Better yet, why don't you all become members of the Westboro Baptist Group?
