[UPDATE No. 2] Adam Lambert 'GMA' concert canceled; 'Early Show,' Letterman book him
If you were hoping to catch Adam Lambert performing on "Good Morning America" this Wednesday, or maybe even see the free concert in person in New York, you're out of luck.
The appearance has been canceled.
According to an e-mail from a show coordinator:
"The Adam Lambert Concert on Good Morning America at the Hudson Theatre has been officially cancelled. It is not necessary to come to the theatre because it will be closed. Thank you for your interest in the show and Adam Lambert. We look forward to your attendance at future events."
(This news via BroadwayWorld.com.)
[UPDATE: 10:31 a.m. Nov. 24,2009 However, CBS has jumped at the opportunity to have Adam on "The Early Show" on Wednesday morning to discuss his American Music Awards performance, CBS News confirms.]
[UPDATE: 11:42 a.m., Nov. 24, 2009 And he'll be on David Letterman's show Wednesday night as well, according to CBS. Performance only!
CBS is definitely stepping into the breach, yes?]
At last count, the Ministry was pushing about 10,000 "Yuck!" votes in its poll on Lambert's performance Sunday at the American Music Awards, a show that drew 14.2 million viewers. (Though supportive votes were slightly ahead of that.)
[UPDATE: 8:10 p.m., Nov. 24, 2009 Note that the poll numbers cited above are from when this post originally was published, at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday. Since then, more readers have voted in support of the performance, and the results will continue to change with time/cdz.]
So where are the corresponding complaints about Lambert to ABC?
In comparison, complaints about Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 Super Bowl were in the half-million neighborhood. (Though the $550,000 fine that was levied is still traveling through the court system.)
Time will tell, we suppose. Maybe the people who were upset worked it all out online?
Or perhaps it's more of a silent protest -- and they just won't tune in again in the future.
At least not Wednesday on "Good Morning America."

I am so glad GMA canceled Adam Lambert. His performance at the Music Awards was so unappropiate and disgusting. He was my favorite on American Idol but now I wouldnt watch him if you paid me. Really, come on is that what you want to promote on national tv. This isnt cable!

Yeah. I am shame of ABC. Giving in to conservatism and freedom of expression. God, this is america!! Are we back in the dark ages!! They are a big FAIL to me!! CBS rocks!

I have deep admiration for Adam Lambert, his incredible talent and sincere artistry. That's what art should be about...I find it absolutely ridiculous that women performers (BTW- I am a happily married woman) have been doing this for so many years, several of the specific AMA night...and suddenly when man does it, it is not acceptable. If parents let their children to watch other performances before Adam's than there should not be shocked by his performance. There was one important think that people forgot to talk about...ADAM IS an INCREDIBLY TALENTED SINGER while others were so average and uninteresting....BRAVO ADAM! BRILLIANT!

Ok There was Madonna and Britany and other girl, girl lip locks on award shows, why not guy, guy kisses?? You go Adam. And this is from a 68 year old.

It's not discrimination, Adam.
Britney, Madonna and Christina did not simulate oral sex on each other.
Clock's ticking Adam, 12 minutes left of your 15...

This going to cost in album sales too. I can tell that there are fans like me who thought he went far enough on Idol with this kind of dark side theme and was artistically brilliant and destined for an amazing career who now won't want his voice around. Maybe we are the people Adam says he's not singing for. Fair enough. Thing is, that wasn't a song. That was pathology.

I can't believe people actually called in to complain about Adam Lambert's AMA performance. I mean what was the big deal? It isn't like we all didn't see Janet Jackson grabbing her own crotch, feeling up her male dancer, grabbing her own male dancers crotch and then bending that same male dancer over to get "butt access". Are people really going to try and tell me that when that same male dancer turned around and kneeled down before Janet Jackson we weren't suppose to get "simulated oral sex to a woman" thoughts? And Janet Jackson opened the AMAs! All that happened within the first 5 minutes of air time! Did you get any complaints on Janet doing that? Or that folks sent their kids to bed because of it? NOW, how is that any different than what Adam Lambert did? Oh, right because he is a dude.

Way to lose viewers with your cowadice and discrimation, GMA/ABC. They just lost a loyal viewer to The Early Show who will indeed have Mr. Adam Lambert on their show tomorrow.
Where is the hoopla on the male dancer sniffing Janet Jackson's crotch or the Rhianna's bondage couture. Carrie Underwood forgot to wear pants but I guess these are all acceptable.

Wow it was a perfomance just like he said ...I was a little shocked at first but then thought hey most commercials for football and ya have you watched spike tv lately?? Like Adam said they are more provacative than than anyway... and this is suppose to be AMERICA!! If you dont like it just dont watch it!

I suppose all those 90-year-old grandmothers who watched the AMA and who are the main audience for Good Morning America got upset by 1.5 seconds worth of kissing and simulated(?) sex.
Adam will be better off without ABC and their stodgy old morning show that nobody watches, except out-of-towners who like to have video proof of their visit to Times Square.
Thanks, Adam for showing the world what it means to be gay and different, and to actually enjoy a little ribald activity now and then. I was afraid gay men were getting a bit stuffy, talking about marriage and raising kids and all that. If I wanted that, I'd turn straight!

I am a huge fan of Adam Lambert. Didn't really like his performance at the AMAs largely because I didn't think it showcased his amazing voice and I thought it was somewhat cheesy. I like the song and thought that the performance could have been more sophisticated and gotten the message across. After all, the song is meant to have layers of meaning. All that being said, I still am a huge fan, and plan to buy the CD. I still look forward to his live performances on TV. I do not understand why people are in such an uproar over Adam's performance, when no one has anything negative to say about other performances that night, like Shakira's pelvic thrusting to the words of "So put me in a cage and lock me away and i'll play the games that you want me to play" Or how about rappers grabbing themselves in the crotch on national TV? Adam is right: it is a double standard. ABC should be ashamed of itself.

Your 15 minutes are up!!

Adam's performance was hilarious. I've been laughing for days!

Disgusting.... Have some class and stop with your sexuality on telivision. It's a wonder you did not win American Idol.
Posted by: pete | Nov 24, 2009 at 10:14 AM
Adam Lambert is no star. Learn to sing and stop worrying about making out with men on t.v.
Posted by: pete | Nov 24, 2009 at 10:15 AM
Oh, please...if you don't want to watch Adam in all his fabulousness, then get off your lazy butts and pick up your remote.
This is America...if you don't want to watch it, don't...but at least shut up so the rest of us can hear the show.
HIDE THE CHILDREN...THAT ADAM LAMBERT BOY IS COMIN' ON...LMAO!!!!!

GMA==no guts, no glory. it's absurd that you would entertain the idea that adam would recreate his AMA performance on your stupid, vapid, boring morning show. goodbye abc==hello cbs. your loss.

I'll buy Lambert's new album, but will never watch Good Morning America again...

I watched the first part of Adams bit and turned it off! Some of the show was spectacular Ie Alicia Keyes and JZ and I looked forward to seeing Adam but was repulsed! gone in 30 seconds....

You have to consider the number of complaints with respect to the size of the audience. I know there were far more viewers for the Superbowl than for the AMAs. I also recall that there were orchestrated efforts by conservative groups to get their followers (who may not have even watched the game) to complain about the "wardrobe malfunction". In time I'm guessing you have the same with this.

Who wants to see a pervert like that? Of course, that's why I didn't watch the MTV show either.
Thank goodness they cancelled him.
Posted by: Jsmith | Nov 24, 2009 at 10:30 AM
There is a button on your t.v. and your remote called the POWER button. You know the thing that turns your t.v. on and off!? There are also buttons that you can press to change the channel when you see something on t.v. that you don't like! I wasn't shocked at all by Adam's performance. It was exactly what I expected from Adam! If you listen carefully to the lyrics of his song, he basically asks you if you can handle it/him/his performance. Either you love it or you hate it! You go ADAM!

I was going to watch GMA on Wednesday just to hear Adam Lambert, but now that he isn't going to perform guess I will not. I'm just a little more liberal than a lot of people and would like to give him another chance.

Thank you GMA for doing the right thing.
Adam was not canceled for kissing someone............he was canceled because having simulated sex on Primetime TV is inappropriate.
Please son't compare it to Madonna, Britney..........it was so much more.
He was going for shock and awe and had no awe!!
