There's no more sure-fire way to kill something's intrinsic comedic value than to try to examine what makes it funny. The minute you start thinking, you stop laughing. So why, then, have Nerve and IFC.com devoted an enormous amount of time, manpower, monetary resources, server space and posh catered lunches to the pursuit of ranking the boob tube's finest sketch comedy offerings?

It's rare that I agree with a list such as this but it appears that Nerve and IFC put a lot of thought into this project.  I would only add not subtract from this fantastic list of the 50 greatest comedy sketches of all time. They have compiled a list of the best sketches from SCTV, SNL, Mr. Show, UCB, Flying Circus,Abbott and Costello and so much more. Sure to make you laugh on a Thursday morning. errrr ... I'm calling CRAP!!!!!! The list is weighted far too heavily towards SNL.

Here's what they did:
- loaded up a bunch of SNL skits
- put a few easy, obvious classics at the top to mute dissent
- tossed in a few Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show, SCTV and British pics in at the bottom to give the list a little "street cred" but nullified that by pointing out that these picks are "absurd" because the list-makers clearlyonly appreciate the in-you-face, "HAW HAW" comedy of SNL.

On a truly "greatest of all time" list, SNL should maybe occupy 5-6 slots. Tops.

Fair enough statement, however the sketches they picked from SNL were by far some of the best. I would have liked to have seen Stella mentioned.

An uber-geek and proud of it, she established herself as an Internet presence with All Things Christie, a blog that managed, with its quirky and unabashedly self-indulgent links to and commentary on whatever struck her fancy or her ire, to attract small legions of readers, fans and would-be stalkers. Her interests were as they are: myriad and eclectic, though certainly given to a particular fondness for the tech-y, the game-y and the kitschy. She is her own organizing principle, a kind of mad surfer on the crests of cultural lunacy, alternately acerbic, ecstatic and unintentionally insightful.
