Scale model of Scrooge McDuck's money bin

12:00 PM PT, Apr 17 2008

This is a set of images documenting a model of the world's richest duck's money bin, built by me in 2002/3, using blueprints created by the great Don Rosa and Dan Shane. The blueprints are a part of the Rosa story "The Beagle Boys Vs. The Money Bin" from 2001. Visit this page to read Rosa's own words about the blueprints.

And remember Carl Barks - the mind behind the idea of a man storing all his money in a giant concrete bin.

Unforunately I don't think you can actually swim in gold. Not only do I think that idea sounds painful but I'm also pretty sure you'd have a hard time getting back up for air. I'm not a scientist but I am pretty sure that has bad idea written all over it. [ Flickr Set of Scrooge McDuck's money Bin ]

While on the topic of all things cartoon ducks, here's a Donald Duck Family Tree.

Swimming in gold is the adult version of the Chuck-e-Cheese ball pit, which you can swim in... Therefor you are wrong, you can in fact swim in gold.

touche, Adam.

I ALWAYS wanted to swim in gold and I used to be a competitive swimmer so if it's do-able I figure my odds are pretty golden....get it...oh..

Scrooge MacDuck WINS. He's so rich he defies the laws of physics and just pays the ticket.

Man, I saw this and didn't think you'd be interested.

I love the family tree, by the way. Now I wanna watch Duck Tales. Whoo-ooo.

Christie St. Martin
Christie St. Martin was born in Bermuda and educated at two Canadian universities that would prefer not to be mentioned here until she supplies them with healthy building endowments. An uber-geek and proud of it, she established herself as an Internet presence with All Things Christie, a blog that managed, with its quirky and unabashedly self-indulgent links to and commentary on whatever struck her fancy or her ire, to attract small legions of readers, fans and would-be stalkers. Her interests were as they are: myriad and eclectic, though certainly given to a particular fondness for the tech-y, the game-y and the kitschy. She is her own organizing principle, a kind of mad surfer on the crests of cultural lunacy, alternately acerbic, ecstatic and unintentionally insightful. She has since blogged for VH1's "Best Week Ever" and Exhausticated.com, providing her usual melange of cheek, snark and occasional observation. Christie also contributes to LAT's Hero Complex blog.
