'Slumdog,' 'Happy-Go-Lucky,' and 'Australia' big winners at Satellite Awards
Last night, the International Press Academy (IPA) hosted the 13th annual Satellite Awards, formerly known as the Golden Satellites. Like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the Golden Globe Awards, the IPA features many categories in which there are two sets of nominees and two winners, one for dramas and one for musicals or comedies (and performances therein). The group's choices only sporadically correspond with the Academy's — instead, it usually embraces the critics' favorites — but they have overlapped for best picture each of the past two years.
Last night's winners were:

- Best Actor (Drama): Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor")
- Best Actor (Comedy/Musical): Ricky Gervais ("Ghost Town")
- Best Actress (Drama): Angelina Jolie ("Changeling")
- Best Actress (Comedy/Musical): Sally Hawkins ("Happy-Go-Lucky")
- Best Supporting Actor: Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road")
- Best Supporting Actress: Rosemarie Dewitt ("Rachel Getting Married")
- Best Adapted Screenplay: Peter Morgan ("Frost/Nixon")
- Best Original Screenplay: Thomas McCarthy ("The Visitor")
- Best Animated/Mixed-Media Film: "Wall-E"
- Best Documentary Film: "Anita O'Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer" and "Man on Wire"
- Best Foreign-Language Film: "Gomorrah"
- Best Art Direction and Production Design: Catherine Martin, Ian Gracie, Karen Murphy, and Beverly Dunn ("Australia")
- Best Costume Design: Michael O'Connor ("The Duchess")
- Best Cinematography: Mandy Walker ("Australia")
- Best Editing: Dan Lebental ("Iron Man")
- Best Score: A.R. Rahman ("Slumdog Millionaire")
- Best Original Song: "Another Way to Die" ("Quantum of Solace")
- Best Sound (Editing and Mixing): Richard King ("The Dark Knight")
- Best Visual Effects: Chris Godfrey, James E. Price and Diana Giorgiutti ("Australia")
