Foo Fighters + Grammys go 'American Idol,' version 2.0
The Foo Fighters will step into the role occupied by Justin Timberlake at last year’s Grammy Awards, offering fans a chance to perform with them on stage at this year’s ceremony on Feb. 10.
But unlike last year, Dave Grohl and company aren’t looking for anyone to duet.
“We want some string players,” says drummer Taylor Hawkins in a YouTube clip. “We want some horns, and we’re going to write a new part that really rocks.”
Adds Grohl, “We’re going to make the all-time Foo Fighters Grammy orchestra.”
The rules specify that you must upload a 60-second clip playing a string, woodwind or brass instrument only. Ah, what young rock ’n’ roller hasn’t dreamed of being part of an overblown, orchestra-enhanced award-show moment with a ripping violin solo?
A Grammy panel comprising singers, songwriters, producers, music industry executives, as well as key Recording Academy executives, according to a release, will choose 45 quarter finalists. YouTube voters will narrow the field and the winners will perform live on the show, with one person being chosen as a “featured instrumentalist.”
The Recording Academy introduced the “My Grammy Moment” last year, when Robyn Troup won the opportunity to sing two songs with Timberlake live on the telecast. Watch it here, if you don’t remember.

It's bad enough that Justin and American Idol suck big time...Please NARAS stop this crap...now you're beginning to look more ridiculous and less credible than you've ever been....
