'Just Go With It' becomes 12th Adam Sandler movie to gross over $100 million domestically
Adam Sandler's latest comedy "Just Go With It" passed the $100-million mark at the domestic box office this weekend, making it the 12th film featuring the comedian to pass that financial milestone.
The movie, which stars Sandler as a man who fools women into liking him by pretending that he is getting divorced, was released in mid-February and has since made $100.3 million, according to an estimate from distributor Sony Pictures. The movie has made less money overseas, so far collecting $62.8 million from 23 foreign markets including Russia, Brazil and Germany.
Since 2000, every film released in over 2,500 theaters that the actor has been in has made that much money, with the exception of 2009's "Funny People" and 2004's "Spanglish." Both of those movies were comedies with strong dramatic plot lines that failed to resonate with broader audiences.
Sandler's biggest hit in the U.S. was 1999's "Big Daddy," about an unlikely foster father, which collected $163.5 million. His lowest-grossing movies were smaller films with darker subject matter. 2007's "Reign Over Me," in which he played a man whose family died in 9/11, was released in under 2,000 theaters but only made $19.7 million. The Paul Thomas Anderson-directed "Punch-Drunk Love," which played in under 1,500 theaters, made $17.8 million in 2002.
Few other comedians hold as much stock with moviegoers as Sandler does at the domestic box office. Eddie Murphy has been in nine live-action films that have topped $100 million, but the majority of those movies were released over a decade ago. Will Ferrell has had leading roles in five live-action films that have grossed over $100 million, but in recent years, a number of his films -- including 2009's "Land of the Lost" and "Semi-Pro" in 2008 -- failed to make even half that much money. Excluding animated films, Ben Stiller has been in eight movies which have made more than $100 million; Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have starred in seven respectively; Kevin James in five.

Adam seems to know how to pick his scripts. He knows the dating scene and keeping sort of that angry college punk image has actually been great instead of a sex symbol with abs, he's always got that cheap looking haircut, no- metro sexual fitting clothes and he's America's single minded perve that we love to see make blantantly hit up on women, mess up, get frustrated, make an ass of himself, and still get the girl in the end. That's why men love to see that. Women surprisingly love his movies because he's honest about what he wants even if he exposes himself, and that vulnerability doesn't happen with the typical hearthrobs. His is basically facinating to see a spoiled, child minded, unedited guy rule the world for once. Oh wait, George Bush also did that since 2000 too.

I love Adam Sandler, so often he gives you a wonderful feel good movie. I love it when he and Drew Barrymore star in a movie together!

His lowest grossing movies are his best ones. Go figure.

I can't stand him. But I live in Europe, and I am very happy that his movies don't do well outside the USA. And since I don't like Jennifer Aniston either, it's all good.

I have to agree with a previous poster that the films that made the least had the most depth and were probably his best acting and best films he was in. Although Waterboy and both barrymore/sandler movies were great too.

Jim Carrey has 12 films that have grossed over 100 million although two are animated. However, 2 have cracked the 20o million mark domestically and there we live action.

Sorry Rocknmovies but Sandler does well overseas also. At least six of his movies have grossed over a hundred million in foreign countries. So keep your snobbery to yourself.

Let's face it, people didn't go to see Adam, they went to see that blonde and Aniston in a bikini. Having said that, I did see "Reign Over Me" and thought it was a great movie that dared to broach the subject of 9/11 when most of Hollywood avoided it like the plague. Adam's acting in it was noteworthy.

I'm a big fan of Adam Sandler, and from the Philippines, where he is as popular as Manny Pacquiao. i think he would also make it big if he co-star with Rachel McAdams! Wish they could make a movie together, they match perfectly!
