Gary Ginsburg, who spent 11 years as a top aide and communications chief for Rupert Murdoch before leaving the media mogul’s News Corp. last November, is expected to take a senior role at Time Warner working closely with Chief Executive Jeff Bewkes.

Word of Ginsburg’s expected appointment comes less than a week after Ed Adler, the head of corporate communications for Time Warner, said he was leaving the company. Ginsburg had been in talks with Bewkes for some time, people close to the situation said. News of Ginsburg’s move to Time Warner was first reported by the New York Post. Ginsburg is expected to be a Time Warner employee, not just a consultant, and have lots of turf.

At News Corp., besides overseeing corporate communications, Ginsburg was heavily involved with the company’s purchase of the Wall Street Journal. Ginsburg also played a role in shaping the company’s presence in Washington, D.C. Before joining News Corp., he had worked in the Clinton White House.

Ginsburg already has a lot of important friends at Time Warner. He is close with HBO Co-President Richard Plepler, who himself is very tight with Bewkes, who ran HBO before becoming the chief operating officer and later chief executive of Time Warner.
