Relativity Media, which co-finances movies for Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures and recently began financing its own movies, has hired a veteran studio executive as its first marketing chief.

Geoffrey Ammer, who oversaw marketing at Sony for four years and recently had a one-year stint doing the same thing at Marvel Studios, has joined Relativity as president of worldwide marketing. Because Relativity doesn’t distribute its own films, Ammer will represent his new employer’s interest when coordinating marketing plans with partner studios including Universal, Sony, and Lionsgate.

“Geoff brings to Relativity a remarkable expertise in marketing quality and commercial fare,” Relativity Media Chief Executive Ryan Kavanaugh said in a statement. “Beyond his creativity and wealth of experience, Geoff’s a dynamic and energetic force that we are delighted to have join our team.”
