It may be too early to declare that it’s the first sign of green shoots in the local production economy, but permits for on-location commercial filming shot up 52% to 35 for the week ended July 27, according to FilmLA, from the same period a year ago. Permits for on-location feature filming dropped to 33 from 36, while permits for on-location shooting of television production declined to 80 from 102.

Despite the permit drop in features and television, however, overall production days increased to 650 from 630 last year (one production day is defined as a single crew’s permission to film a single project at a single location during a 24-hour period).
