Is CBS’s Quincy Smith looking to quit? That’s what The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital blog says. Smith, who is CBS’s digital deal guy (Last FM, CNET) and a former Allen & Co. banker, is thinking about opening his own M&A shop. CBS declined to comment. If Smith does walk, he’ll be part of a trend, according to Fortune, which reports that traditional media companies are rethinking the role of their new media executives as they become less intimidated by technology.

Fox is closing in on its fall picks, ordering the drama ‘Human Target’ and the comedy ‘Sons of Tucson.’ The network also said that Shawn Ryan (‘The Shield’) will take over as executive producer of Fox’s ‘Lie to Me,’ which has been renewed for next season. The Hollywood Reporter

The only broadcast network to post solid gains this season, CBS is doing it the old fashioned way --with scripted programming. While the network does have some reality fare, it is dramas and its strong comedies on Monday night that have driven its ratings this season and maybe the other broadcast networks should take note.
