'Twilight' Countdown: Robert Pattinson and his vampire pals

07:00 AM PT, Oct 31 2008

20 days left...

Cullens_3

As promised, here is the early edition of the paper's Sunday story on "Twilight." Times writer Gina McIntyre spent a sunny afternoon -- read: scorching hot at 100 degrees F -- with the actors who play three Cullen sibs: Robert Pattinson (Edward), Kellan Lutz (Emmett) and Nikki Reed (Rosalie).

She learned about Robert's "embarrassing" on-set injury...

For the movie's action sequences, the actors experimented with stunts and wire work, which Pattinson admits did not play to his strengths. "I got injured on the first shot of the first day," he said. "I wasn't even doing a stunt. I was just trying to pick up Kristen and I almost tore my hamstring because I hadn't been doing enough squats. It was very embarrassing."

...and what the boys did to wind down...

"When we did have those hard days," added Lutz, 23, "we would go back to Rob's room. He had a couple of guitars in there and a lot of great music. It was really fun being able to relax and have the cast come together, having that time just to bond and not really be actors but friends."

And I have more good news! I just confirmed that I will be talking to RPattz himself Election Day  Tuesday. I'd like to devote that Q&A strictly to the best questions I get from you guys, the fans. I won't be able to ask every single one submitted, but rest assured I'll select a most representative bunch. Once again, fire away!

Also, don't forget to check back in tomorrow to find out who won last Saturday's Caption This contest, and to participate in the next.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference 'Twilight' Countdown: Robert Pattinson and his vampire pals:

I know I personally want to hear him talk about Little Ashes and How To Be more...Little Ashes is still such a mystery to us. We know he did research for the role of Dali, but how far did it take him? What is he most wanting to show us in his portrayal of Dali? Is he ready for such a drastic turn in fan reactions?

And Twilight wise, considering how his popularity has sky-rocketed thanks to his Edward portrayal, how has it changed him personally? (Not being able to walk down the street without a scream or two? Having to be be in three places at once to promote? Having to buy new clothing and not being able to cut his hair to keep up the image his managers want?)

Sounds like 20 questions! I just want to hear new...different questions that he hasn't been bored to tears with... Can't wait to read it all!

I'd like to know what kinds of books Rob reads...I've read in a couple of on-set interviews that he reads the most interesting stuff. Also, what bands does he listen to?

What's a typical day in the life of Rob Pattinson like?

I would love to hear your music live. Have you considered touring?

My question for Robert:
Did playing Edward have influence on you as a person and as an actor?

Question for Robert:

Music seems to be very significant in your life. What are some of the bands/songs that you have discovered that you can't live without? I.e. A song that you MUST sing along with loudly and obnoxiously every time you hear it, if you ever do that sort of thing.

Do you find it difficult to be away from your family and England? You seem to be very busy lately which would prevent you from visiting home. How do you stay connected?

I have a question to submit for Rob's next interview:

Being that you and Kristen are both obviously beautiful people with chemistry between you, is it possible to spend so much time "working" on love scenes and not just get lost in the moment and carried away? Do you allow yourself to just get caught up in it and go with it or is there some secret you employ to keep it on a strictly "professional" level? I cannot imagine kissing you under any circumstances and not just getting really carried away with it!!!

Robert: I've been very impressed with your humble attitude in the face of the insanity that is your growing popularity. While fame is great for your independant projects such as "How to be" and "Little Ashes", often unexpected fame can hurt a person as they try to cope with the lack of privacy and crushing expectations. What helps you stay grounded in the face of such overwhelming adoration?

I was just wondering if you could ask Rob what his favorite food and dessert is? Also, what's on his ipod? and what is jis favorite color?!

Is this where we ask a question for Rob? I hope so because here's mine. :)

Twilight has become a blockbuster before even hitting theaters. Do you think this will change the roles you are offered in the future? What type of roles are you hoping for?

Thanks for this opportunity!

Tiff

PS- Will you be posting the questions you choose, or should we just be watching out for your interview? Thanks again! :)

I have a question for Rob. Who or what has had the biggest impact on your life thus far and also, what is your favorite type of music? I love folky/bluesy type music and especially yours... do any specific musicians inspire you?

Rob seems to be a very private person so my question is :If you knew how big Twilight was going to be and how much your life would change (i.e. getting mobbed at the airport in Mexico) would you still have taken the role?

I don't know if that's a good question, but I am very curious to know. Thanks!

Thanks Denise/Gina for a great article.

My question for Rob is:

Does he have a favourite football(soccer) team in England?

Thanks.

First, like to say this gentleman has been a breath of fresh air as an actor in which I haven't seen in a long time. Keep up the tremendous work,now;

QUESTION
You have been quoted as saying you would like to be involved in political speeches. With our voting for our next leader in this country today, would this political position interest you here in this country, your home or a more broader area? And why does this field interest you?

There are some super funny photoshopped Twilight posts and comments on LJ’s ONTD blog. Here are a few amusing posted gifs inspired by his bro-mance with Tom Sturridge:

Oh and my personal fav is “nuttymadam” : http://www.youtube.com/user/nuttymadam3575. She posts youtube reaction vid’s every time something new is released – it’s so hilarious, but he may want to look into a restraining order. Just curious if Rob keeps up with the blogs and if he’s run across anything that he thought was particularly funny or outrageous.

Hey Rob:)
1.
Do you ever regret being a celebrity especially with all the hype and unwanted attention or just being limited in doing normal things?
2.
As pathethic as it sounds,is looks seriously important to you?
3.
What else would you rather being doing right NOW?

As an actor, I would LOVE to ask Rob some questions!

-I think your choice in material has been great so far-ranging from highly popular vampires to controversial Salvador Dali. When playing your characters, is there anything you wouldn't do that a particular role has called for?? Do you have a line on what you would or never do in a film?

You have to ask Rob these questions! What has been the most difficult character for you to portray or just get into as an actor and how did you overcome that difficulty? Also, Which character portrayal came the most naturally to you that maybe you thought would be difficult but was not difficult at all? Tell Rob Cloressa and the rest of the girls in Blockbuster District 380 have the upmost respect for him as an actor and as an individual. WE LOVE YOU SPUNK!

Thanks for giving us the oppurtunity to get some questions out there..'

Sincerely,
Cloressa

For future projects, is there a role or charter type you would like to portray? Is there an actor, friend or infuential/inspirational role model, you would like to work with?

Question:

Now that you can't walk down a street without hearing someone scream "OME! EDWARD CULLEN!" and you've been mobbed by fans (i.e. Mexico), do you regret having signed on for "Twilight"? Do you think you would have been better off (or happier) by sticking to indies and small projects?

Who are your favorite bands, types of music? If you were to shoot New Moon, what part are you most looking forward to? I think the whole scene in Italy could be awesome.

My question for Rob:

He has done everything from hollywood blockbuster to extraordinary indie films. What are his aspirations/goals career wise? Does he want to do an action flick? romantic comedy? musical? or an oscar-worthy drama? etc.

Who would he vote for if he could?

Question for Rob:
If you can play in any other vampire movie, what would it be and why?

For future projects, is there a role or character type you would like to portray?

Is there an actor, friend or someone who has been influential/inspirational (male and or female), you would like to work with?

Actor, and now Original Music. Can you see yourself or would you like to “don another hat” in the film industry? If so, which in particular?

It's hard to come up with just one question, there are so many. My question: How does your family feel about your sudden popularity? Are you a close family? Are you and your sisters close? I bet they are very proud.

Seeing as how Rob is promoted a lot on the internet through fan-sites, message boards, promotional blitz sites for How To Be & Little Ashes, etc.. has he ever checked out any of those sites?

Questions for Robert:

You seem to like taking on many different roles in the characters you play. Is there one particular character or project you would love to bring to life or to work on in the future?

I love your music and would like to know what you have planned in the future in regards to your love for singing and producing. Any plans to put out a CD or go on a tour?

Thanks!

Rob- When I hear your music I always think of Jeff Buckley. This is a huge compliment by the way. I was wondering if he's had any influence on your music?

My question for Rob is:

What is your biggest pet peeve and what is your favorite place to get away and relax?

Robert why didnt you want to put an auditon on tape for Catherine Hardwicke.(Catherine mentions it in an audio interview with one site).

is there a particular role that you would do anything to get if the opportunity came your way?

Can he confirm that he's going to be playing one of the leads in Parts Per Billion and if so when is that likely to be filmed.

Rob mentioned two other projects besides an indie film(which I assume is Parts Per Billion) that he was going to be involved in.

Can he confirm that these two other projects are not Twilight films but other films that he cant talk about at the momnet. (Fans are keen to know know that he is being offered good work and we'll see him in many roles and not just as Edward.

Rob used to say he thought fans only liked him because of him playing Edward. Does he now appreciate after meeting fans that they actually have a good understanding of his other roles and appreciate him as an actor and not just for playing the character of Edward?

[He seemed surprised at the Austin film festival that fans were aware of his earlier TV work or even playing Dali]

We don't hear much about Rob's family.

I want to know. What does Rob's family think about his fame? Do they get scared for you? Do they find it funny?

As a fan of Rob's I dont want him to be too distracted by a musical career but want him to focus on film as he is such a wonderful actor. Can he confirm that acting is his main focus as a career?

There was some talk that a film biography of Jeff Buckley was being planned. Is he interested in playing Jeff Buckley in a bio film. I think he'd be awsome in the role.

The same applies to the planned biography film of John Lennon's early life. is he interested in going for that role as he'd be perfect.

I wanted to ask Robert if he is aware of the effort, started by a group of Twilight Moms, to secure him an invitation to host Saturday Night Live, and what he thinks of that idea! If the opportunity presented itself, would he be interested in hosting SNL?

Thanks for the opportunity to have our questions answered, Denise! We're all really enjoying your daily countdown articles!

-Angela

If he could play any role from a film what would it be.(He'd be an amazing lead in a remake of a Clockwork Orange and has a Malcolm McDowell vibe to him)

What are his favourite british comedy series/performers?

Is there a character from a book he'd like to play e.g Troy in Far From the Madding Crowd (played by Terence Stamp in the 1960's) which would be a perfect match for him.

My Question for Robert:

Back while you were first beginning filming and receiving hate mail, i organized a Love Notebook through Twilight Moms. I (along with many other Twilight Moms I am sure) would like to know if you ever received that notebook and if so what did you think?

Which Cullen couple has the most off-screen chemistry?

Is there a part of the book that didn't make it into the film that you wished had?

What was the most difficult scene to film in Little Ashes.

Has he seen the final version of Little Ashes

Would he like to play any other artists or poets.

Did he have any tuition for the painting scenes in Little Ashes

Has he always been such a good bike rider (little Ashes reference where he has to ride a bike).

Whats his favourite scene from Little Ashes

A question for Rob:

What qualities in a character do you look for when you consider taking a role in a movie?

Hi Denise and thanks so much for a wonderful article!

My question for Rob is - at this point in your career, you probably have mixed feelings, i.e. happy because your film roles are so well-received, and a bit daunted too because there will probably be some sacrifices you have to make in terms of privacy and similar issues. What would you say are the PROS of being at this stage now, and the CONS? If there was anything you could change or do over, or not do at all, in your career thus far, what would that be?

Please tell him too that he is the most humble, genuine person and it's one of the reasons he is so very much appreciated!

Does he think he needs to nurture a male fanbase to get a wider range of roles in the way that James McAvoy has through appearing in Wanted.

Are there any grapphic novel roles that he is interested in and has he autioned for any

Does his agent have a strategy for his career

Would he like to appear in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film with Johnny Depp

Was it easy to strip for Little Ashes

WIll he ever want a role enough to build up his body for it in the way that Matt Damon has for the Bourne Identity films.

If Kristen wasnt going out with Michael Angarino woud he have made a pass at her.

Question for Rob:

How do you handle all the travel arrangements for promoting your movies? Do you have to hire someone to manage that for you & that person keeps you on track for where you're supposed to be? I know you were recently in Texas, then Mexico, back to LA & then Rome! That's a crazy schedule for anyone to keep up with!!

Thanks for the article!

Question: How do you like LA (so far)? Have you had anytime to explore outside of the typical downtown/Hollywood areas? And do you miss England/Britain?
