The international film press corps showed up en masse for an early morning screening of Clint Eastwood's new period thriller, "Changeling," starring Angelina Jolie, here in Cannes. Early word of mouth for the film and Jolie's performance is very strong.

Angelenos will revel in local period references as the film is based on the actual so-called "Wineville Chicken Coop Murders" in Riverside in the late 1920s. The film's opening title is a jittery black-and-white Universal Pictures "Jazz Age" logo that glows and weaves to the keys of a mournful down-tempo piano.

Other historical recreations include a period Union Station, rampant LAPD corruption, and a supporting role for the Los Angeles Times. Period elements impart a fascinating time travel factor to the movie that we will be posting more about here in greater detail shortly.
