Hugo's Tacos: Fast, organic Mexican food
L.A. has the oddest things in the weirdest places -- and Hugo's Tacos is one of these: An organic-friendly fast food place in the middle of nowhere, a.k.a. Studio City.
I stopped by yesterday for a compo #2 -- a grilled fish burrito with salsa habenero wrapped in an organic tortilla, with a side of organic rice and organic beans. According to Greenopia, the fish is either wild caught or sustainably farm-raised.
Not everything at this taco place is organic, however. Some of the produce is conventionally grown, and the meat is "natural" -- which in my book pretty much just means conventional. However, you can sub in soy chorizo or other veggie fillings in lieu of the usual meaty fare.
The burrito was yummy -- though I realized rather belatedly that a burrito filled with beans and rice with a side of beans and rice is really a lot of beans and rice. I was super full for a v. long time! Next time, I'll go with something with more veggies.
Here's the menu; click on it to biggify and pick out your options before heading over --
I have a feeling someone's going to comment to say soyrizo and vegenaise isn't really Mexican -- but maybe we can all agree Hugo's Tacos has Taco Bell beat. According to its website, another Hugo's Tacos is opening in Atwater Village this summer!

Ummmm? Studio City is not in the middle of nowhere. This is an industry town and it's right next to all the studios. Why do people on the west side think they are the center of the universe? I'm just saying....
