>> Not with a bang but a whimper: 20 ways the world could end, from Discover magazine. My favorite is the solipsistic "Someone wakes up and realizes it was all a dream," but global warming makes the list too.

>> That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet -- unless said flowers have lost their scent. Pollutants from power plants and automobiles could be destroying flowers' scents, say researchers at the University of Virginia.

Burro>> Don't hit Riverside's cute wild burros! Some local people are giving burros shiny collars, so motorists are less likely to hit them at night! Says one of the collar-givers, Kim Terry: "They call me the ass whisperer."

>> Two Amazon activists who fought Texaco and Chevron's massive oil contamination won the Goldman Environmental Prize. BTW, Chevron's a major sponsor of the California State Parks Foundation’s Earth Day 2008 Restoration & Cleanup, happening Saturday.

>> Governor Schwarzenegger plans to attend a gathering of governors to discuss climate change, happening this weekend at Yale University. Up to 9 other governors are expected to show up.
