Water Run-off Conference happens 3/5
Dirty water's big news now, since L.A. County and the city of Malibu have gotten sued by conservation groups tired of seeing pollution from urban runoff enter our water bodies. So it's perhaps unsurprising that tomorrow, a conference entirely dedicated to water runoff is happening in Malibu.
The 2008 Water Run-Off Conference goes down tomorrow at Pepperdine University. An entire day of talks and breakout sessions features some of the enviro-groups behind the water lawsuit, including Santa Monica Baykeepers.
The event promises to be action-oriented, with sessions covering some of the current solutions, such as cisterns and green roofs, available for reducing urban runoff, and an action item board that asks "What will you and/or your colleagues do to keep Urban Run-off on site?" The busy day's capped by a Closing Session featuring actorvist Ed Begley Jr., who seems to be at every L.A.-area green conference these days.
Despite the fact that the topic doesn't sound terribly sexy, the Water Run-Off Conference has managed to sell out! If you want to be on the waiting list to attend, e-mail Debbie Dodson at ddodson@san.rr.com. The conference fee is $60.

Yeah, the "Water Runoff Conference" doesn't quite explain the issue -- it's a pleasant term for "stormwater pollution."

I agree, Heal the Bay has excellent info for the public to help take action and prevent pollution. But SGV is missing half the story. The conference also dealt extensively about water conservation.
