New cars to get stickered with a global warming score
New cars are getting new eco-info stickers! The California Air Resources Board's working on "Global Warming Score" labels (PDF) that'll show car buyers at a glance how green or ungreen their prospective purchase is. (via grist)
Above is what one might look like. The "Global Warming Score" goes from 1 - 10 -- which makes one think that a lower number would cause less global warming, but it's actually the 10 score that's the greenest. Earl Killian at Grist proposes "Planet-saver Score" as a less confusing name; we'll see if CARB takes his suggestion.
2009 and later model year cars'll be getting the stickers in California. Other states that like our Low Emission Vehicle regulations are likely to use the stickers too.
And don't forget to save money while saving the planet: The State of California's providing rebates ranging from $1,000-$5,000 for buying a qualified electric vehicle, including scooters and motorcycles.
