Green cleaning tools for a Swiffer-free home
This week's eco-topic: Green clean
So I've covered green cleaning services and products -- now you need green tools and materials to use them with:
- Get cleaning gloves that last. For the longest time, I'd get cheap "rubber" gloves from the supermarket -- that'd get holes in them and need replacing every month. Now, thanks to Meg's advice, I have Bluettes. The materials probably aren't any more eco than the gloves I used to get, but so far, my one pair's lasted me over a year.
- Ditch the one-use stuff. Environmentalists are saying no to Swiffer, one-use wipes, and even paper towels. You'll find yourself starting to save a good chunk of change.
- Opt for reusable cloths. Trader Joe's Super Amazing Kitchen Cloth gets a thumbs up from Gregory of Apartment Therapy.
- Make your own reusable rags. Got old T-shirts? Cut 'em up and give 'em a new life as cleaning rags.
- Reuse old newspapers to clean windows. Summer demonstrates, here.
