Delegate your green cleaning work

This week's eco-topic: Green clean

If green clean week here is just making you feel guilty -- because you never do that cleaning thing -- maybe it's time to throw in your dirty towel and get help. L.A. has not just one, but two green cleaning services to pick from!

Both use only non-toxic, biodegradable cleaners, recommend a longer detox service for the first visit, and offer residential and commercial cleaning services. They even charge similar rates! The details:

Greenclean Green Clean L.A. Now 2 years old, Green Clean L.A. has built a sizable clientele of Hollywood businesses, financial management companies, celebrities and others. The company also offers a green clean consulting service that helps businesses assess cleaning needs and create a cleaning plan they can implement themselves.

  • Areas served: Greater Los Angeles.
  • Favored products: Ecover, Earth Friendly Product, and household-product-based cleaners made of vinegar, essential oils, etc.
  • Cost: $75 / hour. For a 1,000 square foot, two-bedroom house, the first visit would run about $200, subsequent visits between $95-$150.
  • Contact: Get an online estimate here or call (866) 476-4736.

Motherearth Mother Earth Cleaning. This Azusa-based company launched in April. In addition to their cleaning services, Mother Earth Cleaning works with the Pasadena Humane Society, donating 5% of the revenue from first-time customers to the nonprofit.

  • Areas served: Los Angeles, Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley.
  • Favored products: Seventh Generation, Mrs. Meyers, Method, and household-product-based cleaners made of vinegar, essential oils, etc.
  • Cost: $75 an hour. For a 1,000 square foot, two-bedroom house, a standard two-hour visit with two housekeepers costs $150.
  • Contact: Get an online estimate here or call (626) 969-7279.

Tried either of these companies' services? Share your experiences in the comments.

Update: I found a couple more green cleaning companies in the L.A. area.

Update, 2/5/08: I tried Mother Earth's cleaning service -- and loved the squeaky clean results!

On a similar note, I am wondering if you could discuss non-toxic carpet cleaners in the LA area. I've done some googling but it's difficult to figure out. Any help on the matter would be great!

I'll look into it!

Hi Siel-- It's Jessica over at Low Impact Living.com. There are actually several more green home cleaning services in LA.

I have personally used Cool Earth Cleaning in my house and found them to be great. You can find them at LAGreenClean.com or call (323) 683-2063.

And then there is a service called Maid Brigade. It's a nationwide network of green cleaning services. People can search their area at this link: http://www.maidbrigade.com/stateslist.php

Thanks for promoting these services-- life is so much better when you live in a non-toxic house. :)

Thanks for the info, Jessica! I'll look more into these companies and do an update :)

Hello,

I am the President of Cool Earth Cleaning, LLC and I just wanted to update the contact info provided by Jessica on January 18th. The website has actually been changed to www.coolearthcleaning.com and our main telephone number is 310-961-6347. We can also be reached via email at: info@coolearthcleaning.com

In response to ariadne's posting on Jan. 16th- We at Cool Earth provide non-toxic carpet cleaning throughout the Los Angeles area. There is also a carpet-cleaning-only company I know of that is based in the south bay area, I believe that company name is Bio-Dry but I can't remember for sure. If anyone is interested in Cool Earth or Bio-Dry just shoot me an email and I'll get you the information.

Siel - Thank you for educating your readers to the value of green cleaning. Our company, Maid Brigade, is a franchise based residential cleaning service and in 2007 each and every office around the country enthusiastically agreed that cleaning green was the way to go. As we educated ourselves we found out that it is not just about the cleaning solutions that are used, it is about a whole system that will provide a healthy home for our customers, a healthy work environment for our employees and a healthy planet for us to enjoy for years to come. I hope our efforts will improve the quality of life for our customers and will also encourage all companies in the cleaning industry to adhere to standards being set by Green Seal, LEED, EPA and other green watchdog organizations.
