Green gift guide: For me!
So I was going to do a bunch more green gift guides -- men's, women's, pets, etc. -- but I'm burning out. I mean, at a certain point green shopping isn't green anymore -- and I've already put together a whole bunch of lists....
Thus, here's my last shopping guide of the season -- and it's for me. Yay! This way I can give late shoppers some green gift ideas -- while hopefully getting stuff I actually want from my friends and family. Here are 11 items, because 11's my fave number:
1. Vintage gloves. [received! But who got them for me?!] I lost my gloves and now my hands freeze every time I ride my bike at night! But I found this cute little pair of vintage (pre-loved, thus eco) gloves that'll go nicely with my winter coat.
2. A rear bike light. My old one got stolen a few weeks ago :( The link goes to the Planet Bike Super Flash Rear Bike Light -- which got good reviews at REI -- but really, any LED light will do. If you know of more eco options, do let me know; as far as I can tell, solar-powered bike lights have yet to hit the market.
3. A bamboo washcloth. My sis kindly got me an eco-friendly towel set -- which I'd asked for -- but left out the $3 washcloth for reasons unknown. So now I'm asking for the washcloth in "purely natural."
4. A warm throw. I spilled coffee on my current blue one -- and am hoping to salvage part of it to try making these slippers. But I need a replacement -- either this Fireside throw in paprika (right; organic cotton) or this rust "branches" blanket (made of pre-consumer fibers and clippings that are collected after the cut-and-sew process) or this Jacquard Blanket (organic cotton).
5. Organic dress socks. So I dissed giving socks as gifts, but I actually need them! Co-opportunity carries organic dress socks, but only in taupe. I need black ones.
6. Organic bra. Since I'm asking for basics anyway ... I need 34B in black.
7. A Buffalo Wireless-G AirStation WHR-G125 High Speed Router. My wireless gateway is winking out -- I have to turn it off and on every hour -- and my tech-y friend Groby recommended this one. The better to blog with.
8. A Flickr pro account. [received!] Here's where I store all my digital photos -- but my free account lets me access only the last 200 photos I've uploaded. So I wanna go pro. Eco-factor: Most photos never get printed, which means saved paper, ink and whatever else goes into processing photos.
9. A vintage record sleeve journal [received!], so I can take notes in the new year in a 100% recycled and reused notebook.
10. Over the Moon Handbag. This fair trade purse is one I've wanted for a long time. I also like this silver Ecoist Recycled Candy Wrapper "Ultra" Bag. I need only one bag, though.
11. Organic wine club membership. Actually, any bottle of organic California wine would be a great gift :P There are two clubs, both out of Cali: The EcoVine Wine Club and the Organic Wine Co.'s club.
Blogging's great because it lets you turn what would've been random e-mails and convos with friends into a longish blog post.... There will be one more post about green holiday gifts -- but it'll be a roundup of the posts done thus far, for those who missed them.

It seems as if everything needs to be eco-friendly these days. But what does eco-friendly actually mean? Can something really be eco-friendly? Or is it just eco-friendlier? Almost everything will have an impact. But some just more than others. I write about this a bit more on http://angryafrican.wordpress.com/2008/02/17/make-it-better-how-friendly-is-eco-friendly/
