Avant-Garde Environmentalism: From Bioneers to Burning Man to Bunnies that Glow Green (free) -- Farmlab, 1745 N. Spring St., Unit 4, Los Angeles. noon. Judith Lewis and panelists ask the question: "Are we heralding a new communion among art, popular culture and fringe technology?"
"How to Cook Your Life" screening and Q&A ($10) -- Laemmle Sunset 5, 8000 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles. 7:30 p.m. Join Slow Food L.A. for a special showing of the new film "How to Cook Your Life" followed by a question-and-answer session with chef Edward Espe Brown, who has been practicing Zen since 1965 and has been head resident teacher at each of the San Francisco Zen Centers.
Saturday, Nov. 17
2nd Annual Asian American Environmental Symposium (free - $70) -- Cal Poly Pomona, Bronco Student Center, 3801 W. Temple Ave., Pomona. 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The goal of this symposium is to foster discussions about environmental issues by bringing together researchers, students, regulators, industrialists, environmentalists and technical experts.
Opportunity Green Conference ($75-$249) -- Ackerman Grand Ballroom, UCLA. 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. This green business-focused conference will give you a crash course on combining environmentalism with profitable business. Organized by a partnership among UCLA organizations, Opportunity Green will feature a keynote by Live Earth founder Kevin Wall, panels and lots of networking opportunities, including a “green speed networking” session."
The Great Los Angeles Walk (free) -- Coca Cola Bottling Plant, corner of Pico and Central, Los Angeles. 9 a.m. Walk the 15-mile length of Pico Boulevard with fellow Angelenos, checking out the architecture, the restaurants, and other sights of the city. The walk will end with a celebration at Cha Cha Chicken in Santa Monica.
L.A. Eco-Village Tour ($10) -- L.A. Eco-Village, 117 Bimini Place, Los Angeles. 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get the history and context of the village, a walk-through of the sustainable community, and learn about the problems and progress in the healthy development of an intentional community.
Greener Sessions Art Exhibit (free) -- 1511 S. Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice. 5 to 10 p.m. Greener Sessions will be host of a benefit for Green Ambassadors. It showcases the works of artists, scientists, architects, engineers and designers who have sketched solutions to the problems relating to global climate change.
“Living Room: Conscious Art and Design” exhibit (free) -- Metro Gallery, 1835 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles. 6 to 9 p.m. This group exhibit includes more than 15 artists who hold a common vision of creating awareness of pertinent issues such as the effects of globalization, nature preservation and the idea of creating a sustainable future.
