Nov. 17: A Popular day for enviro-conferences in LA
Another sign the environmental movement's reached the mainstream in California: Not one, but two day-long enviro-related conferences're planned for the same day.
Yep, Opportunity Green and Asian American Environmental Symposium are both happening on November 17. That's a while away, but registration's happening now, so get on it:
Opportunity Green — happening at UCLA — is a green business-focused conference that'll give you a quick crash course on combining environmentalism with profitable business. Organized via a partnership among UCLA organizations, Opportunity Green'll feature a keynote by fonder of Live Earth Kevin Wall, panels, and lots and lots of networking opps including a “green speed networking” session."
Registration's rather pricy at $298, but you can bring that down to $175 by buying 3+ tickets together, so plan accordingly with your friends. Students get in for $75.
Asian American Environmental Symposium -- happening at Cal Poly Pomona -- is a more student-focused conference, though all are welcome. The goal's to foster discussions about environmental issues by bringing researchers, students, regulators, industrialists, environmentalists, and technical experts together.
The symposium'll feature a keynote by California Assemblymember Mike Eng, plus panel sessions, raffles, and a networking lunch. This second annual event's put together by 3 orgs with long names: Korean America Environmental Professionals Association of Southern California, Southern California Chinese American Environmental Protection Association, and Asian American Environmental Partnership.
Registration costs $70 for the general public, $50 for members of the organizing groups, or just $5 for college students. High schoolers get in free --
I'll be taking the 720 bus to Opportunity Green -- Maybe I'll see you Nov. 17?
