Green Weekend: Art exhibits, magazine parties, fashion shows

LacbcWeekends at Emerald City start on Thursday! Enjoy it, greenly. Like to plan ahead? Check out the Emerald City calendar to find out about all the green events around town.

Thursday, Oct. 11
Downtown Art Walk and Shuttle (free) - All over Downtown Los Angeles. 12 pm. Take a self-guided tour that showcases the many art exhibition venues in Downtown Los Angeles. If you get tired, try the Art Walk shuttle, which runs from 7 pm - 10 pm for free.

Metro public meetings for Westside transit (free) - Pan Pacific Recreation Center, 7600 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles. 6 pm. Bring the subway to the westside! Metro's holding public meetings this month  to discuss possibly extending the Red or Purple line  -- maybe all the way to Santa Monica.

LA County Bicycle Coalition Thursday Night Social ($5 for members, $10 non-members) - 634 S. Spring St., 1st Fl., Los Angeles. 6 pm. Meet up for drinks, conversation and bike-themed films. You can get in free if you join LACBC for just $30!

Hermosa Beach Green Drinks (free, pay for own drinks) - Sangria, 68 Pier Avenue, Hermosa Beach. 7 pm. Green Drinks has no agenda or theme -- The event's simply composed of the people who attend.  All you have to do is show up ready to hang out and meet a few like-minded people over drinks.

Friday, Oct 12

GoodGOOD Anniversary Party (free for subscribers; $20) - Natural History Museum, 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. 9 pm. This forward-thinking mag's throwing a free party for subscribers! All you have to do is subscribe for $20 -- all of which goes to a charity of your choice -- to get 6 issues of GOOD and into the party.

Saturday, Oct 13
Eco-Building Forum (free - $15) - Green Lofts, 8636 Graham Ave., Los Angeles. 12 pm. See how to transform the ugliest building in the neighborhood into a sustainable model, replacing a graffiti-marred magnet for gang activity with a safe, attractive urban development. There'll be organic snacks and bevs.


Organic Weed and Pest Control (free) - Fairview Branch of the Santa Monica Public Library, 2101 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica. 1 pm. Edwin ZumAllen will offer a workshop on natural gardening methods. Learn how to garden organically and minimize weeds and pests without the use of chemicals.

EcoNouveau: a fashion, music and art show ($10-$200) - Vibiana, 210 S. Main St., downtown Los Angeles. 3pm. This show'll feature the Spring/Summer ’08 collection of the most innovative eco-fashion designers in a non-traditional runway show. VIP tix go for $200, but $10 can get you into the Dublab afterparty featuring Daedelus, Frosty and DJ Nobody.
