Bike as sound system -- or mini Golden Gate Bridge -- or ...
Not content with just plain old biking, people are bike hacking -- turning bikes into strange machine-art-sound hybrids and such.
Wired showcases 10 of the strange and lovely creations, complete with fun pics. My fave: The Soul Cycle, (left) which has "a custom-built fiberglass subwoofer and speaker cabinet, front-mounted controls with knobs for volume, track cues and lighting, a rechargeable 14.4-volt lithium battery, a mixer, a wireless mike and a passenger seat."
That's on sale now, but the creator, Paul Freedman, is apparently working on a pedal-power-only version for off-the-grid parties! Perhaps the perfect apparatus for parties at Bikerowave and Bicycle Kitchen?
Not ready to design your own bike-monster hybrid yet? Start small by taking Clif Bar's 2-Mile challenge.
