Clayton looks well built.

Logan White may be our MVP.

The Dodgers better draft a "gamer" and a "player" and an "athlete" or John Hart will not approve!
Gah, the MLB Net guys are like gamers for Major League Baseball. Don't expect anything too critical here...

Who is grading highest on gumption?
Posted by: Phenomenal Smith | June 09, 2009 at 05:11 PM
Law just ripped the Angels first pick.
Posted by: oshea2002 | June 09, 2009 at 05:12 PM
Mike Trout, because he his the only one MAN enough to go to the MLB draft studio.
Posted by: Tripon | June 09, 2009 at 05:14 PM
I never got why you need a war room for the MLB draft. Since no picks can change hands, can't you just give Tommy a list of everyone you want and cross names off as they go?
Posted by: regfairfield | June 09, 2009 at 05:14 PM
Howard and Ibanez go back to back off Santana. I can't imagine Santana has allowed back to back home runs from lefties many times before tonight.
Posted by: Alex41592 | June 09, 2009 at 05:15 PM
I can't believe they chose Andrew Miller over Kershaw for the cream of the 2006 draft crop
Posted by: overkill94 | June 09, 2009 at 05:16 PM
We're less than 10 picks away from our "athletic ballplayin' gamer" ! ! !
The 36th selection for the 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers is ? ? ?
Posted by: Craig88USC | June 09, 2009 at 05:18 PM
Darnit! Stupid Red Sox took my guy, Fuentes.
He lasted almost long enough...
Take the Sta Monica HS kid.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 05:23 PM
I hope Max Stassi or Rex Brothers are available when we pick. Though Tanner Sheppers would be interesting, I think I would go with Rex Brothers
Posted by: Brian | June 09, 2009 at 05:24 PM
I haven't heard gumption mentioned yet but maybe some of the supplemental picks will be full of gumption. The announcers certainly are... full of... something.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 05:24 PM
Tomko actually got the Yankees out of a jam v. the Red Sox. Anything can happen in baseball.
Posted by: WBB | June 09, 2009 at 05:25 PM
Brett Tomko in to relieve for the Yankees.
Joe Girardi has prepared his surrender terms.

I appreciate more than anyone that the problems with the comments have gone on way too long, but I hope by now people realize that if they don't see a comment published for a long period, they should look to see if there's a new post up top.
I almost always put the NPUT note in, but I'm as vulnerable to not being punished as the rest of you.
Thanks.

My only prediction is that John Hart will say that he likes the Dodgers pick. It'll be a good pick, and a player and/or athlete.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 05:28 PM
Only 2 picks before end of first round, and then a few picks after that to LA's pick.
In other words there will be several more great picks of athletes and gamers.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 05:36 PM
Brett Jackson has "hitter's hands" according to John Hart.
Also, he is a hitter, an athlete, he's a gamer. I swear to God John Hart is hilarious.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 05:38 PM
I think underdog needs to walk away from the TV. Just step back. Take a deep breath.
But take a gamer's breath.
Posted by: Phenomenal Smith | June 09, 2009 at 05:43 PM
And I thought Hart was a pretty good GM in his Cleveland days. But even if someone is good at his job, it doesn't mean they can articulate why he's good at it. Or maybe he wants a new job, and doesn't want to give away his secrets to success.
But geez, even Mel Kiper Jr. sneaks a little information in amidst all of the trite blather.
Posted by: GoBears | June 09, 2009 at 05:43 PM
Well fortunately or unfortunately the MLB Network's insightful coverage ends with the first round. And I still have work to do.
But you can keep following the draft online at MLB.com. I just wanted to hear Hart's feedback on the Dodgers great pick.

Meanwhile, in Boston, Tomko is reverting to form. My choice for Colletti's worst free agent signing, as he actually played (unlike Jason Schmidt).
Posted by: WBB | June 09, 2009 at 05:50 PM
That is a pretty unfair characterization of Mel Kiper.
Posted by: Sean P. | June 09, 2009 at 05:51 PM
How did the Nationals get two top 10 picks? I thought the top 15 was protected and untradeable.
Posted by: DL | June 09, 2009 at 05:51 PM
DL, they got that as comp for picking Aaron Crow last year and not being able to sign him.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 05:53 PM
Thanks, dog. Did that #10 pick come at the expense of some other team?
I'd sooner understand quantum physics than the workings of the MLB draft.
Posted by: DL | June 09, 2009 at 05:56 PM
I think the Nats 10th pick was compensation for failing to sign their first pick last year. I'm looking for verification but can't find any.
Posted by: Brent Knapp | June 09, 2009 at 05:57 PM
There are two extra picks in the first round. One for the Nats and another for the Yankees (Gerrit Cole).
So there are 32 first round picks for 30 teams.
Posted by: Phenomenal Smith | June 09, 2009 at 05:58 PM
Gumption delivers! Alex Cora knocks in the go-ahead run for the Mets.
Posted by: Phenomenal Smith | June 09, 2009 at 06:00 PM
And Aaron Crow's long national(s) nightmare is over. Or just beginning. Was drafted by the Royals this time.

NPUT
Posted by: Jon Weisman | June 09, 2009 at 06:02 PM
Whoa. Baylor's Aaron Miller!
6'3" 220 LHP.
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 06:05 PM
And an OF-er, too. Huh. Seems a great player but a surprising pick from White.
Wonder why they didn't go for the HS-er from Sta Monica...
Posted by: underdog | June 09, 2009 at 06:07 PM
Aaron Miller may be another one that everyone else thinks is a position player (see the Draft Tracker - it ignores his pitching) but White sees as a pitcher. Who can hit, it seems.

NEW POST UP TOP
Posted by: Jon Weisman | June 09, 2009 at 06:08 PM
Or could be like Loney, where he does become a position player.
